1st birthday? Brantley+Savannah 2 kids; Mills River, NC, United States 3119 posts

Okay so I have a few questions......

1) We don't live anywhere near any family or friends (closest family is 6 hours away) and so should I just not have a 1st birthday party for DS or plan one in Alabama with my family and friends (my friends also have kids)? I feel his first birthday is important but im just not sure about it (kinda taking a poll on that one)

2) DS's birthday is August 24th, if I do have a party when should I start planning?

A place to have the party would not be an issue. My dad has a house with plenty of room and lots of land, grill, a pool, etc. so that would not be an issue and he would probably offer to grill and whatnot for food. (he LOVES cooking for people and having me and my sister and all our friends over lol I think he gets lonely)

DS birthday is in july and i have already been buying stuff a little at a time because i dont want to barely have a paycheck one week because of all the stuff we had to get....as for the where, it depends on if you want family there or just you, LO, and SO?

We had LO's first birthday party at a park. Cake and ice cream and no fuss.

If its just me, DH, and DS I don't feel like that's much of a party. Which is why it would be have one in Alabama or just not have one.

If you can afford it I am sure your whole family would LOVE to celebrate his first birthday with him in person. I am already planning DD's first birthday so I can buy a tiny bit at a time. I really lucked out though I don't have to pay rent the month of her birthday so that frees up $600 to get caught up on bills and pay for most of her party. I am doing a big pool party at my grandma's house and we are going to be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs though we may move it to a park now because DD is getting tubes in her ears in a week. It's going to be monkey themed and she has a special party dress that grandpa sent her from New Jersey.

That sounds awesome (not about the tubes in the ears though. that kinda sucks) But yeah we could afford it and even if we couldn't my dad literally throws gas money at us trying to get us to visit lol we have to keep telling him DH cant get the time off work (which he really cant) lol

Then I say go for the big birthday bash at your family's house. Sounds like they would love it.

I think its a set deal doing it there, I just asked my dad and he said sounds good. so YAY! lol. We just gotta figure out the when though, my husband wants to visit for July 4th so if we visit then idk if it would make sense financially to travel back in a little over a month for a party. Cause a 6+ hour drive with a 10-12 month old is a LONG drive lol.

DH gets paid vacation days for July 4th (the factory is shut down during it) and then he can use some paid vacation days to extend the trip a little bit so I mean would July 4th be too early to have a 1st birthday party? It's almost 2 months early???

Honestly the first birthday is for the parents and the family so if that is when you can do it I would say go ahead then your family can be part of the celebration. Then on his actual birthday do a small cake with you DS and DH and send them the pics like someone else suggested.
