Do you believe the news? *poll* eKnuckles Due February 13; Florida 3466 posts

Do you believe everything you HEAR and SEE on the news? It seems to me people truly feel that they are getting 100% honest information from the news and other media outlets.

I remember years ago someone set fire to my dad's business. He deals car parts/scrap metal etc and a barrel filled with oil exploded and shot over a four lane highway. It was on the news and everything and as they showed the video clip over and over again they were giving commentary about how he was running an illegal business that the government had no idea about. Total BS, my dad had just undergone an intense audit.

I also remember watching CNN and they had flashing breaking news that ghaddafis son had died. He didn't.

So do you sit there believing it all? Believing none of it? Or just picking and choosing?

i.....consider the source.

i understand that things happen and reporters are people. i also understand that they have motivations, need to get viewers and news now a day often also has a political agenda.

I don't really watch the news so I actually use BG as my news source because there are some moms that are crazy good at finding good links lol
If I do watch the news, I really only believe it if they are all generally reporting the same thing.

This. I also think that a lot of reporters and news stations really jump at the bit to be "the first to bring this to you" that they don't always take the time to verify what they are saying, and end up bringing forth wrong info.

Some.

And I also try and consider (like the recent news coverage of this week) that brand new information is probably the least accurate, and it takes time to get reliable coverage.

CNN are kind of a*****es. When Sandy Hook happened they were blasting all over that it was the older brother that did it, his name and even his HOME ADDRESS, and showed his home. Then to my knowledge didn't even apologize for their mistake.

They won't apologize for reporting all afternoon yesterday that the second suspect was in custody either. At least they haven't yet, and won't even admit they messed up.

They're ridiculous. I don't even watch the news usually because they're all so full of crap.

How do you go about verifying information.

In general, I hate the news. There are so many lies, propaganda, etc. I hate CNN and Fox News. I don't like to watch racist people speak. I usually just check in when a major event happens and then have to try and see whats BS and what isnt.
I was brought up believing you don't take information from liars.
