If you do time outs, what do you do if your kid gets up? I use a timer for the three minutes. Do you stop it and restart it when they get back up? Do you restart the time? Or just keep going? He's three btw.

I would tell him that he has to sit there until the timer runs out and if he gets up the timer starts over.

My kids stand on a sheet of notebook paper for time out. Any time they make noise or get off the paper, their time is restarted. Works wonders because they can see everything going on but can't be a part of it and it drives them crazy :)

depends. If hes calm, I tell him to sit down, if hes still irrate then teh 3 minutes restarts

Im really inconsistent with my minutes though ...I let him sit there till he calm, if it takes one minute it take one, if it takes 5 it takes five KWIM

Their time doesn't start until they're sitting/standing (I'm not picky on that). If they move out of the spot, the time starts over. We went for 30 minutes once, but she certainly got the point.

Restart the time until they finally give in. That way they know that they can't get away with the behavior and that you mean business.
