This may be a bit of a vent but feel free to discuss it/disagree with me/call me a dumbass.

This tweet keeps popping up on my newsfeed. People are applauding it and commenting how "true" it is. Well, you know, I don't agree with it.

The Westboro Baptist Church are vile people, but they are not terrorists and are in no way comparable to terrorists. They have not shot at anyone. They have not blown anyone up. They have not threatened anyone with anything other than telling them they are going to hell.

I realize the WBC may infuriate you and you want to "like" this twenty million times, but if you stop and THINK about what this tweet is actually saying, you will be appalled with yourself. Saying a Muslim views a terrorist the same a Christian views the WBC is like implying terrorists are just an annoying group of misguided people who love attention. That is NOT what a terrorist is. Goodness gracious people, think a little bit before you hop on a bandwagon.

Vent over. Okay. Agree/disagree with me, or call me a dumbass.

I do not think she was trying to compare them to each other, I think she is making a good point.

What I got from it is that, Muslim people find them to be a disgrace to them, and Christians see the WBC as a disgrace to them. Is she somewhere else saying WBC and terrorists do equal harm?

I think she's saying that what the minority do does not reflect the majority, i.e, not all Muslims are terrorists and not all christians are homophobic idiots rather than saying terrorists are like WBC. She is suggesting that 'Islamic' terrorists are not in fact good Muslims and believes that they don' represent Islam any more than WBC represents christians.

At least that's my take on it. I have to say I agree with her.

I would have to agree with this, that's what I got from it when I read it.

I did not. I read a comparison between the WBC and terrorists.

thats a great point. obviously terrorists are worse than the wbc but she wasnt trying to compare terrorism to wbc she was pointing out that she dosent want to be associated with terroists just like christians dont want to be associated with the wbc and.she.shouldnt be judjed as a muslim

She isn't calling them terrorists. She is comparing how extreme they are.

It's a good way for Americans to grasp that not all Muslims have extreme Islamic ideology.

it is a good point...

i would be offended if someone just assumed i had the same beliefs as WBC, just because i would be considered christian... goes both ways....

I see what both of you are saying.

Her major point might be getting overlooked though, if you just take away from it that shes comparing. She saying that we dont condone the behavior put on by our extremist counterparts.
