Quoting Destinite:" This is old. It's been done & 90% of the people who tested, passed. I like the idea in theory, but ... [snip!] ... when these people come up dirty. Instead of focusing on testing people, they should restructure the program all together."

I think the reason so many people passed is because people who knew they were not going to pass didn't even bother with trying.

At my job they drug test but within this building there are 5 restaurants a water park and 386 rooms. Theyre is a lot of equiptment that xould cause injury and with delayed reaction time by a lifeguard someone could drown . If you are a vakued employee though and develop a drug problem they will pay for rehab to help keep you on the right track

Its amusing how much some people care about the minute % of their tax dollars that go toward welfare when they dont seem to be concerned about the larger % that lines the fat cats of Washington's pockets.

Quoting I♡C+#2.:" Yep! Too many people on welfare not spending their money like they should be. I used to work at Walmart. ... [snip!] ... with a lot of alcohol and their kids not well dressed/hungry. Why couldn't they spend that money on food/clothes/bills, etc.?"

It's amazing how people always see these druggies come in with a lot of alcohol and crappy looking children. Seriously, like everyone for something like this has seen all these people on drugs, or drinking, wasting all their money, selling foodstamps, doing all this shit that I have NEVER seen. And I am not naive in any way, I know abuse DOES happen but I highly doubt at the alarming rate people on here makes it seem.

Secondly, if children are clothed and fed (even if they are fed by foodstamps) I don't care if a mother decides to toke before bed. It doesn't make you a shit parent to smoke weed... shitty pothead parents would be shitty with or without the pot. You say "shouldn't be spending money like they should," who is ANYONE to say how ones money should be fed? Someone getting a 20-50$ bag of weed will NOT make or break their welfare/food stamp benefits. They would still be able to get benefits even if they didn't buy that bag. If they are spending a TON of money on various drugs they need HELP, not "Oh well no food for you!"

Secondly, most people on welfare DONT do drugs. It's a gross assumption and stereotype that we must drug test welfare recipients. Tell me, should we drug test those who get survivor's aid? Should we drug test those on disability? Should we drug test those who get insurance claims? Should we test those on WIC? Why not test everyone in the nation and if they fail then shame on them, no help for them ever! If they get a scholarship from college, cut them off! If they are getting subsidized daycare, cut them off! If they are getting survivor's aid or disability from the government, cut them off! If they are a soldier smoking pot, no more military benefits!

I mean really, it's stupid and pathetic to demonize people like this. I will say that I don't give a damn if my daughter's teacher smokes weed. If she was addicted to meth I'd want her to take a "time out" and get HELP. If my neighbor was on welfare and I caught her smoking a bowl at night, I wouldn't care. I'd probably want to smoke too if I was so far below on society's ladder and people keep stepping on my fingers as I climb up.

I don't believe in drug testing for jobs unless you are perhaps a surgeon, I wouldn't want a doctor like that on crack but if they smoked weed I wouldn't care. If a pilot was on drugs Id be concerned. Those make it where people can die under their care. But the mother working her ass off at Walmart smokes weed, or maybe even pops an ecstasy pill once every few months? I don't care. Even if she was on welfare...

But the reality is MOST on benefits are not actually on drugs and it's a gross generalization that they are.

Quoting ♫♥♬:" pot smokers are not gonna sell their food, or starve their kids to smoke pot."

Did I say anything about pot? No, I said if someone is selling their benefits for drugs then they probably aren't taking care of their kids to begin with so it wouldn't matter.

Yes, because you know that EVERYONE who smokes weed buys it themselves.

I think people underestimate how easy it is to fake a drug test. This was a waste of money. Florida already tried it.

Quoting IDGAF ❤:" Uhh..I doubt this is anything new. They tried it a longggg time ago & it ended up costing the state ... [snip!] ... stopped trying to do that shit. I love how people try to throw fucked up stereotypes on those just because they are on welfare."

I think it has more to do with being fair than stereotypical. Most companies require preemployment drug screening, and some even have randoms. People that work and pay taxes are indirectly the same people who pay for welfare assistance. Why should those paying for the assistance be drug tested, when those receiving it are not subject to the same rules?

Apparently TX plans to test for both.
