Us broke folks aren't supposed to have any fun. no alcohol every once in a while, no pot every so often and god forbid you get a tattoo while on assistance, even if you know the person and dont pay for it.

I think if someone calls and says this person is selling their foodstamps for drugs it should be looked into definitely.

Isn't the point of welfare reform to save money? It's already been proven in Florida that drug tests actually cost more than they save. So you (those who support this because it's only "fair") are okay with spending even more money JUST because you are drug tested for your job? This makes no sense to me.

I know plenty of people who work and smoke pot. It's really not that hard to fake a drug test, even a random one (unless you are watched while you pee, which doesn't happen in most cases. Even in those cases, there are still ways to fake it.)

The sense of entitlement that people have really appalls me sometimes.

This.

I work at a casino that drug tests (both before employment and randoms). Do you know how many people there do drugs? A LOT. I smoke weed... All I did was quit long enough to pass a piss test to get hired. It'll be the same with welfare. A lot of the harder drugs don't stay in your system that long like weed does... People will just quit long enough to pass, then start right back up.

See and I think it's crap jobs ask for drug tests. My recent ex had to take a test in order to deliver lightbulbs. Do you REALLY care that someone delivering lighting supplies needs a drug test? I don't lol. Even me as a teacher... smoking weed AT school isn't okay, but if I were to smoke at home after grading some papers.... why shouldn't I be able to? It's just dumb.

Even if you didn't know someone that made tattoos, it's like "Wow, you worked and saved up for that tattoo? That could have been used instead of food stamps."

As if that 200 dollars you saved up is going to make people say "NOPE! No more food stamps for you!

It doesn't work that way. People are dumb!

I'm appalled when people try to limit the rights of others just because they think their way of life is more "right" and should be the law of the land.

It's not entitlement.... it's called don't worry about waht I do with my body. It's just like I said.... a 20 dollar bag of weed won't make it where you suddenly can't get food stamps each month. Do you think those on food stamps shouldn't have fun until they are off state aid? Like, if a child says "Lets go to the movies!" The mother is supposed to say "No baby, we are on food stamps, no movie for you!"

I know a lot of people who trade services for weed.

A friend of mine is paid in weed for babysitting. 8)

Reading the original article posted here, I disagree with it. People seek welfare because they have little to no income. How would they be able to pay up front for a drug test? It doesn't matter if you're reimbursed or not, if you don't have the money, you and your kids starve? That seems harsh.

The kids should not even be with the parents while they have a drug problem.

If I could feed my family decent for 200 bucks a month I wouldn't need foodstamps...200 might last two weeks unless we decide not to eat anymore meat.. We did start buying in bulk when possible. The local piggly wiggly sometimes has steaks and porkchops they sell that haven't been cut yet. Obviously the steaks are more expensive but it will feed the family for almost 2 months by itself. I know I will get shit for saying I buy steaks but 30-40 steaks a rack of ribs, and beef tips for stews its a damn good deal.

I don't think anyone's saying you can't have fun...

My point is that if I have to get drug tests to work and pay taxes that fund welfare, then you should get drug tests to receive it. I can't smoke pot every so often. i want to, but I can't.If I choose to, I will lose my job. It's fair to me that you should lose or risk losing your benefits if you choose to.

This made me laugh  lol

We get FS but it only helps us monthly and we still need to buy groceries with our hard earned money to get us by for a whole month. Eventually we will be tampering off of assistance but it's not like I am dirt broke every month. I mean hell, people on assistance need to buy clothes and shoes to wear plus toiletries and what not. I certainly hope people don't expect me to wipe my ass with leaves and wash my clothes in rain water.

It's annoying when people say that "well if I have to get drug tested for my job......" well shit not every single employer drug tests people. I've never been drug tested for a job before EVER and I have held many jobs. To me that point is invalid.

Pot is not a hardcore drug to me and I know a lot of people who smoke it. I can get high and not pay a dime. So I guess if someone wants to get pissed at me for spending their tax dollars while I get high for free then fine b***h all you want. I'm amused
