Well, if you do end up getting induced a day early, that is an elective induction. If it's just to get you delivered on time, it's elective. lol Being so close to your EDD, you probably won't need much to get you going. I had the lowest dose, and the entire time it was like period cramps. Not bad at all. Maybe a 5? But when they had to go all out for the pre-e that was solidly on 9! My elective was just 4 days early, and I was already contracting off and on. I was dilated to a 2 for weeks.

For those worried about horrible experiences with inductions, I consider my first birth Birth Rape. I had the anxiety attacks, the PTSD. But that wasn't induction, that was the nurses. The staff was horrible! My second birth I loved even though I had to go natural. Not being able to have an epi sucks! All depends on your support. You get good people around you, and you will have good thoughts about it no matter how it went about. You may always be disappointed by induction or an emergency cesarean, but the staff matters most IMHO! I have great memories about my second's birth. I'll have the same great ones about my third in October. I love my nurses.

That being said, you probably won't have a ton of fun during any kind of birth. Cesareans are scary, you're in a cold room, and there's a lot of recovery and other surgery side effects. Inductions and natural labor hurt. It really doesn't matter how it gets done, there will be pain. But it will be over soon enough, and you will have a baby to take your mind off of it. You'll also have a great birth story to tell people.

I don't want an epi.

Well thier not counting it as elective, especially since the tech at my ultrasound went and told my mother and my bf if i didn't do it, i was going to have a still birth, and i was asking questions all they did was get mad cause i wasn't rushing out of there to have my baby induced as soon as she said that.
Like, i'm just the worst mother ever who doesn't care about her child cause i'd rather her bake as long as possible and didn't coose friday to "Just get it over with."

I have a back injury from a car accident that is pushing on my spine. Its causing my spine to swell and as of right now the only thing they can do for the pain is give me Lortab and put me on bed rest. I can barely walk anymore. I don't feel comfortable taking narcotic drugs right now unless the pain gets to bad that if rather pee the bed than get up lol, but I was sooooo hoping for a natural birth.

I was induced because of preeclampsia but it went really well.. they started the Pitocin and yes I could feel contractions as they started all the way up until after I got my epidural. so you will feel it just as you would without induction. all it is really is speeding up your body and the contractions. and I still got to decide if I wanted an epidural or not.

Well i know you still decided if you want it or not.
Where you dilated at all? Does that make a difference? I mean i would think if you were, you wouldn't need much to get you fully rhere and your body would take over.
I don't really have experiences with hot flashes either =/

I was only dialated to 1 1/2 I was only like 35 weeks. but they started me off with a low dose and the more they gave me depended on how strong my contractions got. well they made sure I had a fan and plenty of ice chips bc id get really hot then id be okay then id get reeeeally hot again.

Hey ladies.
On April 30th, at 3:44 PM i delivered a 6 lbs 6 oz.
Baby.
The doc attempted to piut me into labor on my own by breaking my water, (I came in at 3 almost 4CM)
They ended up doing pitocin but i still went epidural free, i got a first degree tear but only needed one stich.

Inductions are not bad, it all depends on your body and how it reacts to the pitocin. I had elective inductions with all 3 of my babies with absolutely no complications. First birth went in at 2 cm and only labored 5 hours. Second birth went in at 5 cm and labored for 3 hours and third birth went in at 3 cm and labored for 6 hours. The only issue I had during labor was with my third, the epidural for some reason did not work on the left side of my body and I could feel everything on that side. Other than that, no issues with pitocin or being induced. Your birth is your birth and you do whatever makes you feel comfortable. As long as baby is safe and healthy that's all that matters.

I went in in active labor at 36 wks, 36 wks 4 days and 36 wks 5 days had all 3 kids before 37th week ended up giving birth at 36 wk, 36 5 days and 36 6 days and even though I was dialated at a 3.5/5 when admitted with my 3 kids I had used pitocin with all 3. I think my dr was pitocin happy lol. I felt real contractions with all my kids and pitocin induced contractions honestly I don't know the diff they all hurt. I only had epi with first labor and 2nd and third natural with some pitocin, never used meds with them. My dr even said im brave attempting labor with pitocin and no pain meds but ive always figured labor is goin to hurt reguardless and its sopouse to. I don't get extremely uncomfortable untill about 7 cm so its not like its agonixing pain the entire time, with my 2nd it was though bc I had back labor entire time plus pain from a tooth breakin off all happening on mothers day lol. Contractions were literally 15 second s apart.nothing could save me but pushin him out but recovery was very quick. So I guess since pitocin was used you can call it induced labors.I wouldnt say I had horrible experiences.its just labor and I know it will hurt reguardless. Im in my 36th week now dialated 3.5 fully effaced and contractions are 10-15 min apart so dr thinks ill go this wk or next wk for sure like I did with others and im not using any pain meds this time and if pitocin is needed for short period ill get low dose.
