OPKs and irregular periods Mama of *3* TTC since Feb 2013; 3 kids; Wisconsin 15834 posts

Ive never tracked my ovulation and Ive never had irregular periods. But, since having my son 10 months ago, my periods are like 35 days long, and I spot 3-4 days before I actually get my period...I have NO idea when and if I'm ovulating. Im about to order some OPKs so I can hopefully aid us along in getting pregnant with baby #4.

When should I start testing? And do the directions in the box of OPKs tell me how to tell when the test is positive for ovulation?

I bought tests on eBay. They say on back of each pkg what a positive looks like.

I have about a 35 day cycle now since my miscarriage. Mine were always regular too until then. I use opks and I normally start them about 7 days after I finish my period. I buy a box of 20 at walmart and I test twice a day. I'll test around mid morning and then again early evening no later than 8:30pm. If the test line is as dark or darker than the control line you have found your surge. Usually you will ovulate 12-48 hours after that surge.

thank you! Do you ovulate around the same time even though you have a longer cycle?

With the months I did ovulate yea it was around the same CD. Never exactly the same CD but within a day or two of the previous month. I'd ovulate like CD 25 or something like that. I'd just test twice a day until I got my positive then tested 3 times a day until my next negative so I can know when I ovulated so I could count down the days to AF so I don't be surprised.

Have you tried tracking your basal body temp? It's a good way to help you figure out if you are ovulating and it's much cheaper than buying tests every month.

I actually have a BBT thermometer so maybe I should try that first?
