My mom is really upset. On top of that, my aunt's (her sister) husband just left her and my oldest brother has to have surgery soon and can't work till he does. And my sil has to have her gallbladder removed soon. I'm hoping the worst thing that happens to Brian and I has passed (our cat almost dying).

Quoting Colt's mommy:" My grandfather passed away earlier this month. He has had a long battle with prostate cancer and horrible ... [snip!] ... chest xray, they likely wouldn't have done the surgery. This is just so sad, my family has gone through so much this year :("

I am so sorry to hear that. They should have definitely told you instead of keeping it a secret. That's big news. It doesn't matter if there was nothing that could be done. It's the patient's family's right to know the status of someone. You are right though....something that big wouldn't have grown over night and they should have been able to have some kind of indication that a mass was starting to grow. *Hugs*. I know kind of what you're going through. My one grandma died from brain cancer that they couldn't operate on bc the mass was right in a place that if they opened her up, she would have been brain dead for the rest of her life. And my other grandma that passed away a year ago today had health problems most of her life but she entered the hospital one day with a blood clot, things looked really good and looked like she was going to come home and then she suddenly died while in the hospital recovering.

It's mostly sad because we would have known there was no recovery and could have prepared for that instead of having hope for a recovery.

That is sad about both of your gandma's, i'm sorry :(

Yeah I know. That's what I was trying to say. They should have told you guys the truth regardless of what the outcome would be. It's better to know what the chances are than to sit and hope he's going to recover when they fully know he wouldn't. Thanks.

My mom thinks the admitting doctor at the hospital didn't even look at the xray report, or the xrays himself because it would have been obvious to anyone. I'm curious to see what the investigation turns out.

is it possible that he requested it not be told?
patient confidentiality? the way he was treated before he died, that sounds like the way i would want to go. you all spent time enjoying each other instead of dreading the inevitable. idk, maybe not but i thought id ask.

sorry for your loss.

Oh. Well still....that's insane. Why take x rays if you aren't going to pay attention to the results? SMH.

He was completely out of it when he was admitted so I don't think that's possible.

eh it was worth a shot. im glad you got to spend some real time with him before he died, i hope you eventually see that as a good thing or at least come to peace with it. that is really horrible that they did that, hope the investigation helps.

It was a "good" thing. He was in a lot of pain for a long time and nothing helped at all. He was ready to end it. It's just frustrating that this is added on top of it all.
