I was wondering if any of you are familiar with how long it takes to get the non-custodial parent's income tax money if he owes back child support. Last year he was behind 500 hundred but I don't remember how long it took for my son to get it. He told me he was supposed to receive his taxes at the beginning of this past week but they never came. Instead he got a letter from child support saying they were holding his taxes due to back child support. Does this mean that they're holding all of his taxes until they take what they need and give him the rest of they're taking all of it? I don't know if he's lying about the amount he was supposed to get back though. He does owe almost 2700 in back child support. I'm just curious as to how long it normally takes. Child support is being a crab. They won't answer my questions. They just say up to 60 days. I know that much but from what date? The date he filed or the date IRS accepted the taxes or the date he was supposed to get them?

Probably the day it was accepted. A coworker went through this and she got it about 3 weeks after the guy received the letter.

My husband got his taxes back immediately-child support just took theres out and I think his daugters mother got hers in about two to three weeks, My SIL didn't get hers until a month and a half. So sixty days sounds about right.

Was he remarried when he filed or did he file single? I'm just wondering because they say it takes longer if he files married. I know my ex filed single so hopefully it wont take too long. He filed last month I'm sure especially if he was supposed to get it this past tuesday. I know it takes like 3 weeks to get processed. So if it's 60 days from file date then that time is almost up already. It should be in by the beginning or middle of next month. He said he was getting like 6600 back but don't see how. He only worked 3 months last year. He couldn't claim our son because I did. So I don't know. Hoping it comes in soon. He got the letter last week I think but didn't go to his mom's until Tuesday to see about his taxes.

Yea so it sounds about right. 60 days from the date of file. I know he did it sometimes last month so it should be too much longer if it takes about 3 weeks to get to you when you file. He went to someone to do his but I don't know what they used to file the taxes, which software I mean.

Thanks ladies for the input. It'll probably be in in about 2 or 3 more weeks I'm guessing. Not much longer than that. I wanted to start early on my son's school clothes for next year. I like to start early that way I get it out of the way. That stuff gets expensive!

My ex is still single so I know I wont have to wait that long thank God. For his gf's sake she better not marry him. It's bad enough he got her thinking he's still get over 4000 back from the taxes after they take out for the child support. He told her they're just holding it until that's paid up then theyll release his money to him. I hope she's not stupid enough to believe that. She even told him that child support can only take up to like 1000 and no more than that. She don't know how wrong she is.

Wow! I wish I'd be getting that much. I mean he owes like 2692 in back taxes. I just don't know how much he was getting back from his taxes since he's a habitual lier.

Wow. Yea that is a long wait. But it may come in sooner. I don't think it took the whole 60 days last year when I got the 500 he had owed at that point from the previous year. I really have no idea when it would be coming in for me because I tried doing the math. He said he was supposed to get it in Tuesday. It usually is 14-21 days after filing. If so he did it at the end of March. But he came to my job at the beginning of march ranting that he had every right to claim our son on his taxes and why didn't I tell him or ask him first before I claimed him on mine. I was about to go off but didn't since I was on the clock and still working. But I told him later I had every right to claim him since he lives with me and I work. He hadn't paid child support in over a year and because they started taking it from his disability checks this year he thought he was entitled to claim our son.
