Using pack n play TmA's mommy 33 kids; South Carolina 1823 posts

Do you put your child in a pack n play? We used to put ds in his when he was a newborn and he loved it. When we had to drop it he hated it and we put it away. Dh recently brought it back out and so far ds loves it, he is now 7 months old. The issue is, I feel bad putting him in it. I feel like he is restricted and should be out on the rug playing. He will stay in it for long periods of time and it does give me the ability to get more down, but I feel guilty leaving him in it. I feel like hes caged. I know I am being a weirdo.

DS slept in the pack n play by our bed up until 5 months. As for play, I never put him in it. I would just lay a blanket down with toys and lay him on the floor.

I would never put a child in one awake. For naps is cool. I personally don't now but did once in awhile with dd1. We don't have room to set it up in this house.

lol my first used it to play in or when he was getting into stuff i'd put him in there... sometimes he'd fall asleep in there. you'd get over feeling bad if u weren't able to get stuff done!! ;)

DS takes naps in it, and sometimes he'll chill in there after we change him (we still have the top layer up) but he's never in there for too long while he's awake.

I use it when I need to shower or clean. He doesn't mind it but he won't stay in it long. :) He's 9 months, btw.

Noah played in his til he was about nine months old. Not all the time, he was usually on the floor playing, but when I needed to get things done (dishes, meals, etc.) he'd go in it, and occasionally even if I had nothing to get done because he just wanted to be in it lol

My kids liked theirs and I didn't feel bad about using it. I figure if they wanted out they would let me know and it kept them contained so I could get other stuff done. I only WISH they made big kid ones but since they don't I am looking at getting a trampoline with the netting, LOL.

Maks is 19 months and still loves his lol,
He can climb in himself if u let him, I think because no1 can mess with him his sister likes to claim toys she never plays with and pisses him off, if I'm running back and forth from car and front doors open I stick him in it, by time he gets out I'm done and no wild child running outside... lol

It is really hard for me to get anything done without putting him in it. We have wood floors and bought a gym mat and then a thick rug for on top of that but that is only in the living room and he refuses to stay on it. He goes to the edge as fast as he can to throw himself off and hit his head on the wood. I just feel so guilty seeing him stuck down in it, like an animal. I seem to mind it much more than he does.

I think its fine for naps.

But leaving a child in such a small space for any longer than it takes to go to the bathroom or take the trash out, like give minutes, is wrong IMO.

Get a play pen or baby gates so he has more room to play and use his muscles.

I've seen the play pens you're talking about. Some aren't much bigger than a pack and play. So, really what's the difference? I agree that it shouldn't be used to keep your kid in for long periods of time but I see no harm in leaving a child in there so you can wash dishes or sweap the floor. As long as they are happily playing of course. *shrugs*

I've been using ours inside and outside when I need a safe place to put ds for a few minutes. He'd never sleep in there though so we had ours put away too until the nice weather showed up. Wishing it would come back!
