Gay Marriage Fight is a Lie to Destroy Marriage TheNuge 1 child; Pennsylvania 23132 posts

Thoughts?

Edit- I haven't listened to the first clip "spree cast" as it doesn't seem to fit the story. The second clip is the relevant one.

A 2012 speech by Masha Gessen, an author and outspoken activist for the LGBT community, is just now going viral and it includes a theory that many supporters of traditional marriage have speculated about for years: The push for gay marriage has less to do with the right to marry

Agh. I do not have audio so I can't listen to it...

Is the argument only that gay marriage should not exist, or all marriage should not (up to and including traditional marriage)?

I'm kind of indifferent but I'd like to watch and see what points others bring up and perhaps I'd have an opinion on that.

She doesn't believe marriage should exist and disagrees with the concept of the "traditional family".

Listen later when you can. It's very interesting.

And, she says the real agenda of the GM fight is to destroy marriage and how family is viewed.

To me, it seems that her decisions have lead to a lot of strife and complexity in her life and therefore she thinks the institution of marriage should be scrapped for the entire world. And, for the ninnies - no, I don't think being gay is a choice. Who you partner with is a choice.

Hm. I will listen to it, TheNuge.

If someone thinks that it's a silly concept, cool.

It's important to some, though, gay or straight... and I don't think gay marriage "destroys" the concept of traditional marriage, at all.

I don't think gay marriage, specifically, destroys marriage, or intends to.

And as for destroying marriage for the world.... that's a little odd. I mean, if you don't want to get married, don't. But many people do find it to be important in their life, and I don't know why anyone in any capacity feels the need to take it away for others just because they don't agree with it for themselves.

I understand what YOU are saying. What SHE is saying, as an active activist, is that the real agenda is NOT GM. she says that the movement toward legal GM is the next step to destroying the institution of marriage and all the good and bad that goes along with it. I agree that the their are MANY at the core of the movement that share her goal. It's nice to hear someone being upfront about it. I admire that.

But, if one believes the struggle of his/her family has something to do with a traditional institution, one may "take up arms" against that institution.

Believe me, I think many aspects of being gay totally suck. I fairly certain that the gay teachers that my daughter has dont think the institution of marriage should go away. This video shows the hidden agenda.

I absolutely disagree on that front. I do not think wanting to have the right to marry has anything to do with wanting to destroy the institution for other people, or the institution as a whole.

I think it's a sad assumption to make, and not at all meaning to offend... but I think it's sad that someone can feel so threatened by other people wanting the same right to marry that they think the other side has a hidden agenda in wanting to marry.

I do not, at all, think this woman is the majority. Yes, she may be gay, and maybe she wants to destroy the institution. I think she is the minority.

Oh, I don't think the majority of gay people share her views. I think the simple majority (not overwhelming majority) of active activists share her view even if they aren't willing to say it.
And, I'm not offended :)

Ah, I see, I see.

I'm not sure if I think the majority of activists share the view, but I do agree that generally the most extreme tend to be fairly loud. So in that sense... maybe?

Again, I need to listen to this later. But my general thoughts and feelings, there ya are. haha
