Could just be sinus drainage making him cough. Usually unless there's a fever they don't do much :(

DS is 3 1/2 months and had a cough that finally went away last week. It lasted about 10 days. He had no other symptoms. I of course freaked out and took him to the doctor. She just listened to his lungs and did a basic exam. She just said it sounded like a bit of a cold but tested him for whooping cough to be on the safe side. That of course came out negative. So really I think taking him in would just be peace of mind for us mommas.

I am not sure if ear infections can cause coughing or not.... I know that a lot of ear infections are caused from cold viruses so the cough would just be a result of the cold. Also ear infections alone are not contagious.

Are you breastfeeding? I know that that will help boost his immunity and make him feel better sooner. I hope he feels better soon!!!

Ya I had to pay a pretty penny taking DS ugh! I would just keep an eye on him and if his breathing sounds funny then maybe take him in. I am sure your milk will definitely help him!

Yes I had two winter babies so I hear ya on that!!! DD never got sick though because she was the only child... Now with DS I think she brings things home from school ughhhh.

DD never got sick. ever. even after she started kindergarten. now since DS was born this is the second time she got sick. first time she passed it on to him and we ended up with rsv. so the whole sick kid thing is new to me. and seeing how he is so little it terrifies me. i think if the coughing thing wouldnt raise the risk of sids i wouldnt worry as much as i do now :x

Same with DD... She never got sick and still doesnt very often. Her first cold wasn't until over a year. So when DS got a cough I was like what is going on??!! It is new to me also... I do feel you on that. Ahhhh being a new mommy again is nerve wracking way to often!

Poor baby. Ya DS had the same rattling... You could really hear it when he would start to cry. He sounded exactly like a smoker. It sounds like they both had/have the same thing! I hope he feels better soon! Let me know what the doctor says.

back from the doctor.
first they checked his weight, measurements, vitals etc.
he is now 12lbs 4oz at 2 1/2 months (he was born weighing 8lbs) and measuring 24 inches.
they had a very hard time getting the oxy stats. the thing wouldnt measure right at his foot and he moved his hands to much. it kept reading 75% with a 46pulse which was obviously wrong. she eventually got it right and it was 100% with a 136pulse. lol

the doctor checked his lungs, ears etc. everything sounds clear. she thinks the wheezing is from his nose being a little mucousy and that that just sounds like wheezing. so everythings fine :)

on the other hand - my husband woke up sick this morning...the first time since i met the guy....he said he has a headache and chills and all over achy. he was literally acting like he will die any minute...he got some tylenol and was sent back to work. poor guy :(

So glad to hear everything checked out good!! Ya I know the yucky nose can sound like wheezing. He sounds like a perfectly growing big boy already! Yay! How is his cough today?

Poor DH I am sorry to hear he is not feeling well either. Crazy... My DH had gotten sick a few days after DS did and then I got a touch of the sniffles as well. Ugh. I hope he feels better soon!!

i started having a huge coughing fit last night. it was terrible. i started shaking from it and everything :x
DD is doing good, DH is doing good again and DSs cough...
sounds worse to me but im not sure, it could be the mucous in his throat loosening up now. i did 3 nebulizer treatments yesterday and one so far today. i also started the humidifier last night.
his wheezing was terrible yesterday before bed. i could hear him from across the table during dinner. i dont hear any wheezing right now, but his nose is runny again.
guess ill have to take it one day at a time :(

Oh poor baby! Did you stat having a cough fit or DS?? I'm sorry.... How many days has he had a cough? My pedi said that days 5-7 are the worst. She was right when DS had a cough. His went away on like day 10/11. I agree with the mucous... His sounded much worse when everything was loosening then it went away. Just keep doing what your doing momma. And don't hesitate to take him back it again for peace of mind. Ugh it's so stressful when little ones are sick!!

i ended up posting another thread because of the wheezing. i am stopping the nebulizer treatment. someone posted something and it made me realize that the wheezing started when i started using the saline in the nebulizer, so im going to stop that for a while to see if thats the cause for the wheezing.
i keep freaking out over it, but now that i read the responses in the other thread i am much calmer. i then remembered how the doctor said as long as his ribs arent drawn in when taking a breath he should be fine.
still no fever, nursing normal, sleeping normal, wetting his diapers normal, no drawing in chest, no flaring nostrils, no drawn in neck. i just have to keep repeating this in my head to stay calm. otherwise i would run to the ER. lol

and i was the one with the coughing fit. i ended up drinking a lot of cough medicine right after. i havent had a cough this bad in a long time...it was really sudden too so i turned off the humidifier too in case thats what irritate me because that was the only thing i did different.
