It depends on the age of the child and how much detail they could give. I would go to the police no matter what though.

They would need physical evidence, through medical records or a confession.

you take them to the hospital or police station and make a report, i believe thats all you can do.

There would need to be some evidence or the child would need to older.

Not without actual proof. Otherwise it just looks like you're being manipulative to get custody.
