Glucose testing Soon 2 be mom of 3 Due November 6; 2 kids; Massachusetts 412 posts

Ok so this is my 3rd pregnancy and last week had my 1 hour glucose test and failed. I had my 3 hour yesterday and passed. Is this common? With my oldest I failed both and with my middle they only did the 1 hour(which I failed) and said basically since you have a history of gestational diabetes we aren't going to do the 3 hour. I just find the whole thing strange. Obviously it is too late to complain or do anything about and I have had different doctors with each pregnancy but am I the only one who finds this scenario strange?

With my son I failed the one hour and passed the three hour. I haven done it yet with this one but my doctor said if I refused it she could drop me as a patient. And I like her so I'm gonna do it. The only reason I failed the one hour last time was because I wasn't told to fast so I got there and they were like you fasted for 12 hours right? I was like nooooo...... so I'll definitely be fasting this time.

Lol. Me too. That's why I made my appointment for 8:30 in the morning. So I'll fast all night and not be up too long before my appointment. On my bottle it says I don't *have* to fast but I will anyway because that three hour SUCKS.

I think the passing 3 but failing 1 is pretty common. I've heard it happening to several people. But I think a lot of it has to do because it seems like most people aren't told to fast. So if you decide to indulge in some craving before hand and then go in it can cause numbers to be off.

I think that has a lot to do with it. When I was pregnant I would eat cereal every morning so I know my sugar would have been elevated going in to that test if I didnt have to fast, but I did.

I left pretty much as soon as DD got on the bus and brought snacks to eat on the way home.

When I asked about fasting before my one hour they just said as long as I didn't stop for a hot fudge Sundae on my way in I would probably be fine lol

To get the results they are looking for, eating almost anything before hand could effect readings.

My level at the 1 hour was 137 and they like it under 130...I'm not a nurse or anything but I wouldn't think that's a big deal. Maybe it is with blood sugars?

It isn't really a big deal, but because it can be a sign they want to take precautions. And if you have a previous history, they would be a lot less likely to just let a few points go like that ya know?

True totally understandable...It just dawned on me that maybe I won't have to be induced this time( I was with my other 2 kids because of the GD) and I'm actually excited by that. lol
