Quoting Madi's*Mama:" And that's totally cool but she knew when she put her kids in the daycare that the policy was different ... [snip!] ... to discipline. She should have found a different daycare that had a policy that was on the same page as her parenting, IMO. "

I don't see how she can get in trouble for disciplining her own kid, unless she did it where others could see it. And then, I get it. But if she privately excused herself (and had someone else watching the kids, of course..) and handled it? I think that's her right as a mother.

Quoting Manda♥Bella:" its different in a daycare trust me, it never crosses your mind to smack in any way, because its jut ... [snip!] ... that warrants a smack(well in my opinion) because its very rare that there is anything unsafe in their reach or access. "

I only worked one day a week, but I worked as a PreCC teacher/nursery worker for 0-4 years. And it is different, and I never felt tempted....or even had it cross my mind, to spank another child. But once my kids started to break our set rules, and the other methods didn't work? You can bet I was going to stay consistent with what we did at home.

Thank goodness it was filled with like-minded parents who would have done the same.

from what i could tell from the article i imagine it was done in front of the other children.

technically a no smacking policy applies to ALL children enrolled in the centre, and nobody, even those related by blood, are allowed to smack a child in the centre.

Yes, it did sound like it was done in front of others, and I understand that, although I obviously still think it sucks.

I think that's the risk you take, and something you take into consideration when you work at the same daycare your kids are in. The daycare policy should come first, even if no one saw it. It happened on the daycare's property, she was an employee so if something worse HAD happened then the daycare is liable. They are just protecting their business.

The daycare being liable thing makes sense. It's just hard for me to grasp. My knee jerk reaction is  but it does make sense, I suppose.

Still glad I don't work there. :D

Yeah when I first read the title I was 'eh, this could be iffy' but with it being at a daycare with other kids and stuff, I think the daycare is right. Now, if she was working as a secretary for an insurance agent or something and her kid was there acting up? Then I think it would be acceptable and would be wrong if she was fired in that situation since she's not in charge of caring for other children.

i think she should have been reprimanded not fired. if your a daycare worker or teacher & your child attends your school you need to treat them like the other kids. same rules & discipline

she probably thought she needed to address the behavior right then nd there. children of a young age if getting corrected need to get corrected as it happens or right after, otherwise there gonna forget y or what they did wrong later. and would definitely be confused later on as to y they got smacked for nothing.

Because the facility has a no spanking policy she has no recoures. I am surprised any attorney would take on the case. For certain if she signed something regarding that as a condition for employment then she is totally waisting her time.

That's unacceptable on her part. If my child attended the school, I may want to sue her for exposing my child to violence. I don't want him seeing that.
So, I praise the school for firing her.

She should have done it in private. And they said she smacked the child, I think that is wrong. A spank on the butt should be done in private, but a slap or smack anywhere but the butt should not be allowed IMO.
