You can still smoke on your own property. Only public places are affected, at least so says this article:
"Under the proposed bylaw, smoking would be prohibited where municipal buildings are located, in parks, sports fields, all trails, the municipality

I"m not effected by this in anyway since I'm not a smoker and I don't live in Canada but if the ban is only in public places I think it's great. I hate going to the park and smelling smoke. Can't always see who is smoking because they are respectful and step away from the park but the wind blows it and stuff and I still end up smelling it and it's nasty lol

Wow...I have been lacking in keeping up with what has been going on in Canada lately...I didn't even know about this! Lol It doesn't effect me anyway, as I don't smoke. Even though my Dh is a smoker, it won't really effect him either, as he only smokes at home on our front porch, or at work(they have a designated smoking area at work). He doesn't smoke anywhere else. He figures that just because he chooses to pollute his own lungs, doesn't mean the people around him should suffer too. He is trying to quit anyway, so it really won't effect him either way.

And, I don't have a problem with it at all.

We have a ban here like at all the bars there's no smoking inside but they have smoking outdoors. As far as shopping malls, arenas, libraries, city buildings, that sort of thing, you have to be like 9 feet away from the doorway or something like that. We were just at the arena yesterday and they've painted a smoking line on the ground and put an ashtray right outside the line, lol. I don't smoke so it doesn't affect me much but it would be nice to have a larger ban in public areas, especially the beach and parks.

This.

I'm a smoker and I'd never miss anything my kid did to smoke a few cigarettes.
Hell, I've even went to concerts and stuff where i couldn't and did just fine.
Anyone who can't go a few hours needs help.

We have the same restrictions state wide here.

I like it. It's nice to take my kids to the zoo or park without worrying about my kids having to smell any of it. My DH is a smoker and he agrees with it.

I wonder if this has more to with the smoker than those subjected to secondhand smoke. In a country with universal healthcare I can see lawmakers experimenting with different strategies in attempts have less smokers. Just a theory.

But that part about missing out on big events or worse, one's child's events all because they can't have a smoke. That is shitty and I'm glad I don't live that way.
