When a crib is necessary...? WrightsWife Due June 26 (boy); Florida 431 posts

I'm 32 weeks.. Today we went and bought the carseat. I figured that is necessary to get whenever my midwife told me to prepare a hospital bag since you never know. Anyways, we have a Graco Pack N' Play with the newborn sleeper and also have a cradle thats a pretty good size. We have yet to get any nursery furniture, so I was wondering about how old will the baby be until he will need a crib?

TIA!:)

I guess when he outgrows the cradle/pack n play? Idk, my son slept in a crib from day one and this one will do the same.

I don't have a crib and won't buy one. I have the pack'n'play as well with the bassinet on it and he'll sleep in the bassinet part until he reaches the weight limit or he can roll over and after that I'll drop it down and he'll sleep in the playpin part.

I've got cribs for both of my kids and honestly they hardly used them. so with this one im seriously considering on just getting a pack n play and letting it sleep in there up until there big enough for a bed. bc that's where my kids always preferred to sleep anyways.

My newborn went straight into a crib and will this time as well. I didn't bother with a cradle or pack and play

My daughter slept in a moses basket downstairs and in her cradle at night till she was 4 months. It was made by my grandfather years ago though and I did notice it seemed bigger than any I saw in shops. (had to get a mattress made for it) I was waiting on a cot (crib) my cousin promised me so she slept in a travel cot/playpen for another month. So 5 months old when she finally went into a cot.

I never used one with my youngest. We kept him in our room til he was 10 months old and I kept him in a pack n' play. They make mattresses for the pack n plays. I got him one. Hes a year old now and I dont intend to use our crib. When hes big enough to be in a toddler bed in a few months I will just transition to that.

We've never used one, so just buy it when you feel like you need one. I think a pack and play is just as comfortable as a crib (as in, not comfortable, haha). They're also harder to climb out of.

It really just depends. DS would sleep on and off from the beginning but didn't really sleep in there constantly until over a year.

Thanks everyone! I had thought about just using the pack n' play until a toddler bed, too, but my grandmother acted like that was child abuse or something, lol. Definitely relieves some stress knowing that is off of my shopping list for now!

my son has never used his crib, he cosleeps but now that hes crawling were gonna have to put it back up because he wont sleep in his pack n play (i dont think its comfortable) but for this one we are buying a new crib (we got ours at a yard sale) and a pack n play (for travel) and i am wanting this baby to go straight to sleeping in the crib.

You can buy a matress for the pack n play. The flimsy board things that come with them are not good for long term use at all.

where can you get mattresses? That might come in handy with ours. I thought it was just because we bought a cheap pack n play.
