Is this true? Well, mainly true?

I went overdue with my son. He was due on February 15th and on February 26th they decided to induce me because of the results of the non-stress test and such. I gave birth on the 27th. My induction wasn't terrible. I was in labor for 23 hours, pushed for 30 minutes, and had a vaginal birth. But I really want to go on my own this time around. My mom seems to think if you were overdue once, it's the case for all of your children since it happened to her. I know it's not necessarily true but does it increase the probability?

thats me. :) 18 kids; Edmonton, Alberta 3279 posts

I wouldn't think so.

maybe....we will see for the 3rd!

and I went into labor on my own!

In my experience its not always true . My first came at 42 weeks 1 days after I went into labor on my own. I had a 10 1/2 hour labor so not bad . My second came at 41 weeks 3 days so even though I was late it wasn't to bad and I had a four hour labor . My third ( allot of people call the third the wild card) came at 36 weeks 5 days after 29 hours of labor . You just never know .

No, it's not true.

Most first time moms go overdue and moms with irregular or longer cycles usually go overdue.

My first was born 6days over due, my second was 4weeks early, my third was induced at 38wks.

My mum went almost 2 weeks over with my oldest sister, a day before her DD with my sister and then a week before with me. My brother was born at 28 weeks and his twin was born 10 weeks previously so wasn't viable.

Seems like the body just does whatever it wants

It's not always true. My oldest was born at 41w by induction. I had to be induced twice before she would come out. With my son I went into spontaneous labor the day before my due date. I barely felt anything, went to the hospital and was 6cm.

Not always true.
My first I was induced at 40 weeks 3 days. Because NOTHING was happening.
My second, my water broke 9 days before my due date and he was born that day.

BUT, My mom was 42 weeks with ALL 5 of her kids.
So, it all just depends on YOUR body and baby. !
