I would say yes. My fiances grandpa just died his name was Jack but I didn't like it so if we ever have a boy I would use Jackson as a middle name.

I feel like it is a bit of a cheat.



I had a friend who said he named his baby after his grandpa Arthur by calling him Aiden.



I don't feel like you should feel compelled to honour anybody but I also don't think that you can say you named a baby after someone if it is not their name.

I can see what you mean when you have two names like Arthur and Aiden, they have no connection. It depends on the names. I have a friend who honoured a Kathy in her family and used Caitlin. That works because both are forms of Katherine. Choosing a name with the same sound or letter doesn't seem like honouring anyone.

I can moreso see the first two than the third.... but I also agree that you shouldn't feel compelled to honor someone with a name...especially if you don't like the name lol.

J's adamant about using his mom and grandpa's name. I don't want to as J's older brother is named after their mom and grandpa and our nephew is named after their grandpa.
