My LO used to have Acid Reflux and Colic and it was seriously never this bad. He was an amazing baby but around 16 months he just went crazy. I mean he had occasional issues before then but after that it just all went to hell.

The only thing that would sometimes bring my son out of them is pretty much what you did. Hold him tight and rock. And sometimes it didn't work... those times sucked.

It's annoying it's tiring, but you kind of just get used to staying up, playing with him.

I pretty much got used to staying up every night till 1 or 2 and playing with the baby when he needs me, even when I can't take it anymore and he just bugs the crap out of me. We watch tv, or well push buttons on toys...Usually after about 30 minutes to an hour, he's ready to go back to bed.

ETA: I didn't read all the responses. I don't know if there's an underlying issue.

Mostly for my son it's teeth, or bad gas because he's allergic to everything. If he's not scratching at his gums, but has the farts, I give him benadryl to help wit the reaction just in case.

i would try this too. try doing something to wear him out but not hype him up. we've had a handful of nights doing this when she's been sick... (she just fussed a second right now)

Right now I am thinking it could be worse because LO has a rash around his testicles. Like seriously all the way around them. I was so sick yesterday I stayed in bed all day and DH was supposed to watch him and hadn't changed his diaper.. That was a fun argument.
The problem with staying up with him is that he will seriously stay up until four in the morning and go back to sleep and wake up at 9. Like idk about anyone else but I cannot function on so little sleep. You know it takes me a bit to get settled back down so I get about 4 hours and he gets 5.

It sucks for me too, because I work after they go to bed, and then I'm just so irked, but well they come first, and I'm sure my clients understand that occasionally I have to spend time with a cranky baby.

But the pushing buttons. I'd rather watch Mickey Mouse. His favorite!

It's kind of all part of having kids. And in my opinion, I survived everything under the sun for my first child who we recently found out he has autism, he had night terrors, defiance. I was so tired of just having him around! And I was a single mom, then I survived the 2nd one having pneumonia and living in a hospital for a week, and then she had colic for 3 months, that was horrible.

This baby, yeah I can stay up and watch Mickey Mouse, and deal with an allergic reaction, as long as it's eggs, an episode and some benadryl and the farts are gone and he's crapped out again.

See I have three, and I usually am up till 2 and then have to get up when the boys get up at 7:30, it is exhausting but you kind of get used to it and try to steal naps during the day if they're asleep.

Any kind of rash or allergic reaction is why we keep benadryl on hand, my kids are allergic to everything.

But maybe it is upsetting him. And maybe you need to try something else to try and get his routine back on track. Switch up his naps maybe? There has to be a reason and I'm sure if you search for it, you'll find it!

*applause to you!*
this made me feel bad for you but the last paragraph made me laugh. some things i went through with DD and my delivery with her, makes me realize just how much i can handle. now i have a comparison "i did this during labor, so i can handle this pain" kind of thing.

He usually has one nap during the day around 12 and it goes for 1-2 hours. I am just tired. I want to sleep, I beg for sleep. If I ask DH to get up with him I mean sometimes he does but most of the time he ignores me so I get to go deal with it.

That was supposed to say as long as it's "not" eggs.

Eggs is bad enough that we get to rush to find the epi pen, shoot him up, and run to the hospital.

Wheat gives him the farts and makes him uncomfortable. And unfortunately I can't always deny him wheat you know ? Especially when all the kids eat it all the time!

And he doesn't usually mind the farts either. He just walks around, pushes it out, giggles and runs away!

But TO MUCH wheat, gives him tummy trouble along with the farts. Poor guy.

"pushes it out, giggles, and runs away" /dead! poor lil man! every food we try makes me a bit paranoid but i only avoid nut stuff, red meat, shellfish and honey. she's tried so many things and no reactions yet but maybe diarrhea (1st time i ever spelled that right the 1st time!). how old is he btw? DD munches cereal and crunchies all day some days so i totally understand on the wheat thing!

would you mind if i PT you? i know we've talked before and your stories always interest/amuse me. lol

That's fine. We're a whole bunch of crazy over here!

He's 16 months now, I think? It hard to keep track of how old they are after three. The day just blur together. His birthday is New Years Eve though 2011.

The first time I gave him eggs, he was fine, the 2nd time, fine, in fact he LOVED IT! And then weird things started happening. He started acting like he had a cold, since we all had one, we didn't think of it. Then he couldn't nurse. And that was about 15 minutes after he ate. Then the swelling came, he was SO swollen. Like a pumpkin! And he's still smiling! Trying to play! And his eyes were swollen shut! We gave him benadryl, and it kept getting bigger, so we rushed him to the ER. At first the nurse was like, "Oh yeah, that's an allergic reaction" and just told us to sit down. I tried to tell them he was blue, and they were like, "Someone's coming ma'am" Then it was like he fainted, an astronomical amount of puke came out of him and down my shirt, not once but twice! Before he went limp. And the nurse came an grabbed him and we were all running. But as soon as we got back to the room, his eyes open, and he looks around like, "WTF is GOING ON?" LOL! and I saw he needed his diaper changed and so the moment I got it off, he starts smiling and scratching himself.

Even in the worst situations this little boy is epically hilarious. Like when he gets caught being sneaky he giggles and rubs his belly!

So yeah, I can take a few sleepless nights!
