9 month old dd loves to sit up on her own... she does it really quick too. One moment she's crawling and the next shes on her bum! Its great but after a few mins she throws herself backwards. She doesnt do it in a tantrum sort of way... she just does it... well the problem is our house is 80% hardwood. She has yet to do it on the hardwood yet thank god and as soon as i see shes on her bum i run over with pillows. well today i just put her down for a nap... she was quiet.. kinda talking to herself then i hear BOOM! My first thought was she climed out of her crib. I was all the way in the front of the house, downstairs and she was upstairs near the back of the house. The door was closed and it was LOUD! I ran upstairs to find her on her belly, crying. I picked her up and she stopped almost right away. So im assuming she was sitting and fell back and hit her head. Is there anything I can do other then being a hovering mother? SO's family laughs at me and says im smother because i wont let her sit alone on linolium... um... i dont want my kid smashing her head on the kitchen floor!

I just let dd do it and laugh when she fell because 9 times out of 10 she wasn't really hurt and would laugh with me but if she did cry I would comfort her. It passed fairly quickly.

Just leave her. She will stop doing it once he realizes how it hurts. Also, she is really close to the floor so she's not likely to hurt herself.
