How messy when water breaks? suzyq463 1 child; Iowa 220 posts

Okay, so I have been thinking about this quite a bit and it really bothers me to think that I never know when/where my water will break (if it does). Did any of you do anything like wear pads or put a large crib pad or something down on your bed or in a chair you sit in a lot? I sleep a good portion of most nights in a new leather recliner and it just bugs me to think of messing up either that or our bed. And for those of you whose water DID break, was there much mess and how did you clean it up?

With my first it broke after sex and since I squirted I was already laying on a towel. I rolled over and pop. We stripped the bed I took a shower and put a pad on. With my second the doctor broke my water.

Mine broke on the toilet so it wasn't too bad but it did run down my leg when I stood up and soaked thru my pants.

Mine broke like 10 minutes after losing my mucous plug. I wore a pad to the hospital so it wasnt a big mess for me.

Only 12% of women start labor with their water breaking.

they broke mine both times when I was 9cm dilated. I still got a water proof mattress pad for my bed. Maybe get one of those water proof pads made fro cribs for your chair since you sleep in it a lot. They are something like. Two for $10 Walmart.

The doctor broke mine when they did my induction. Huge gush it felt weird. They gave me a pad. Whenever I would stand or move into a different position it felt like I had a waterfall between my legs.

I was laying down in bed when I heard a "pop" noise, my bed wasn't even wet. I didn't even realize my water had broke until I stood up and it started running down my leg. I thought I was peeing on myself! I ran to the bathroom and sat on the toilet, so it wasn't that messy for me.

I was on our bed and it soaked everything. Seriously I woke up in ice cold water so it broke sometime early on when I was asleep. We just stripped the bed down and washed the sheets... no big deal.

It was funny though, I said "Well, either I pissed the bed or my water broke!"

Mine was more of random gushes. The first "gush" was that morning, after I was done peeing, I stood up and a little trickle ran down my leg. I chalked it up to weak bladder, wasn't done peeing etc.
Throughout the day I kept having more and more gushes. I was early (35w6d) so I thought there was NO POSSIBLE way it was my water. I had "explained to myself" that those following gushes were just normal discharge. Actually, the only reason I even went in to L&D to be checked was because my DD's movements got really...weird and painful.

I've only had mine break on its own with DS2. It was A LOT. I swear a gallon of water came out. The bed was soaked, I soaked through two pairs of pants and was still leaking quite a bit even at the hospital.
