Quoting Kayla [:)]♥:" Anymore? You never really could, I suppose. It has always been more likely for your kid to get raped or taken by a close friend or family member."

I grew up in a small town down south so i never really was around this. I was around a lot of family and people my family knew i could trust.

I'm definitely teaching my kids stranger danger. BUT I can say growing up in a small town and in a town that is "thought" to be safe, I probably wouldn't have hesitated in getting into the car if someone offered me a ride. That's just how my town was. Also, it was a lot different 10 years ago than it is today. There's a LOT of terrible things that happen in today's society that were unheard of back then. That same town I've talked about....has become the pits of hell since I was a child. Yes, she probably should have thought twice about getting in a car with a stranger but we don't know the specific details. I've heard it was a school bus driver that kidnapped her, I've heard that it was someone she knew....whatever the truth is....it sounds like for SOME reason, she thought this guy to be safe at the time. But yes, I do agree that it's more important now than ever that we teach our children NEVER talk to strangers and to use good judgement when approached with these kinds of situations when they enter the teen years. I personally think though that had she refused the ride, he PROBABLY would have come after her anyways. So it might not have even be avoidable IMO.

Yeah it happened in the town right next to me so that's why I know of it. Not sure if it was a national thing or just big here.
