HELP! Scariest diaper I've ever seen! It's grey M a m a Japan 17 posts

My DS woke up this morning with a crazy diaper. It was very, very runny poop. But the poop was grey. It was like water, with black "seeds" if you want to call it that. He's been fussy and a little weird. I called his dr., and he has an appointment at 1.
He was on iron supplements, but I've been giving him cereal bottles, so he hasn't been on them in over a month. He's almost 8 months old. Around a month or so ago he was first introduced to baby food. So now he eats like 6 lil 3.5oz tubs a day. and he's never been breastfed.
I researched and researched, but I couldn't find a poop like his. I'm really concerned. Anyone could possibly know why he's having grey water poops with black specks/seeds?

my DD had that kind of poop before. but she had it only for a day or so.
but hers was not grey.
i was freaked out too but we let it go away and it did the following day.
it ma that he is getting used to the food and possibly something in the food has seeds??

I work at a daycare and we've seen a few diapers just like that. The first time I changed a gray poop I freaked. Mom took her to the doctor and they were told it was a virus of some sort and she ended up being just fine.

He eats SIX jars of baby food a day?

As far as the gray poop, it could be absolutely nothing. Was one of the foods he had yesterday something new? It might have settled wrong in his tummy- it could have been the speed at which he digested it. It also could be that color just because it's diarrhea. I wouldn't drive yourself nuts trying to figure out why it's gray, just keep an eye on the next bowel movement. (If the gray poop CONTINUES it could mean something- one or 2 is usually a non-issue.)

Encourage lots of fluids since he's having some diarrhea (to keep him hydrated).

This was my thought! 6 is a bit much. :/ Is there a specific reason why he is eating so much?

Have you looked at the "diaper decoder"?

The Grey poop usually means his poop is not getting enough bile in the digestive process and could be a potential issue. It's a good thing you've made him an appointment. If you can, bring a stool sample with you. The black seedy looking poop could be nothing, or it could be bad, there's really no way of telling.

no seeds in his food. just regular old gerber baby food. He eats 10oz formula cereal bottles about 3 or 4 times a day and then 2 3.5oz baby food tubs 3 times a day. He's just hungry... He's always been a big eatter since he was born. He's only 8 months old, but the size and weight of a 14mo old. He's really long and heavy. he's in the 80 percentiles is what the dr says. His eatings normal.
idk i hope its nothing... I just never seen or heard of a diaper like his before. freaks me out....

His eating is not normal.

He should not be getting formula/cereal bottles at all, unless it was prescribed by his Doctor and 6 jars of baby food a day is a HUGE amount. Especially if he's just been started on solids.

There shouldn't be cereal in the bottles anyways

My LO always been in the 99th% for everything and a big eater, but 6 jars is still a bit much!

Well the seeds don't just magically develop out of nowhere. Maybe he got ahold of something, does he crawl? Do you have an older child that may have fed him something?

No cereal in the bottles, btw. If he eats as much as you say, I hope you've bought stock in whatever grocery retailer is in your area.

:!: right? My kids never ate more than 2 jars/day. Actually my youngest never even ate a full jar/day. I realize she's talking about the 3 oz jars but still.... that's a whole lot of food.

Both of my babies did the cereal bottle thing. plain formula wont fill him up. he'll be increditably fussy. I know cereal bottles are an old timey choke hazzard thing. They work for my children tho. they spit up and fuss alot without them.
But yeah now that i think of it, i could be giving him too many baby foods.....he just seems so ready. He screams if i'm eating around him and wants little bites of food that i'm eating.
there for about a week, i couldn't afford any baby formula so he ate only baby food, but now he's back on formula and he's been on it for about a week or so again. I'm not proud to say that...but could that have messed with him pretty bad or something? i didn't know what to do and he couldn't go hungry. i had loads of baby food stashed for him. We almost couldn't afford rent...
While the baby food thing was going on his poops just turned into solid "toddler" poops and they were normal. but once i reintroduced him to formula they got a little runny again and now this grey poop.
