Can someone help me find out the chemical components that make them in the same chemical group and how similar they are.

I took my son to the GI and he asked about his miralax intake and I told him we haven't been using it as much, because it's hard for him to drink that much liquid in one sitting so I've been giving him an oz of coffee with natural creamer, and he's been having good bowl movements. But DH isn't completely comfortable with me doing that. He said if it works that's great, it's a bowel stimulant and ^^^^. So now I'm like :?

Thoughts?

It's prescribed by the same dr. That said ^^ today. And, he's been taking it for over a year. He then told me some other natural alternatives and said, "the drug companies have all these different medicines out, but how much of it is really good for you"? I'm thinking... You're the one who prescribed it in the first place.

There is no comparison.... because they're not the same. It's like... asking how urine and powdered sugar are the same....

But, why would he say that? Because they are both chemical components of ______ glycol? Seriously confused and a little shocked.

Well, chemically they are similar but that doesn't mean they are actually the same. And who is "he" that said they are the same?

Miralax DOES have neuro side effects. Miralax is polyethlyne glycol. Antifreeze is ethlyne glycol. The poly isn't supposed to pass into the bloodstream, but in some it does. This compares the two well http://www.ehow.com/about_5977662_polyethylene-glycol-vs_-ethylene-glycol.html

Well, don't go googling too much then, cause it's in a whole lot more than just Miralax lol.

Thank you for. That is exactly what he said, but I couldn't remember the terms.

It's going in the trash. I'll stick with coffee. I know it's not conventional to give a toddler coffee, but it's a small amount and I'd rather give him something natural.

It's in a lot of things. It's in vaccines used as a preservative, it's in some oral pain relief meds, toothpaste, soaps, shampoos, shaving creams, condoms, teeth whiteners. You are probably exposed to it and ingesting it yourself, a lot, without even realizing it. Soaps, lotions, those things are absorbed into your skin and into your blood stream. While I don't *like* giving kids coffee, I'd probably give my kid a tiny bit of coffee to help instead of adding another exposure, but, that's just me. Does caffeine free coffee work as well?

I'm not sure... We drink so little coffee as it is, I'll probably just continue to let him have sips of mine. I haven't noticed a change in his behavior when he drinks it.

My son is SN and his body is off with the way he processes things, language... Everything in his system. I've been working on going natural with him. Organic soaps, Tom's toothpaste etc. the more I find out the more it kicks me in the butt to continue moving forward and eliminate as much non natural stuff as possible from in our home.

IMO natural is best.

If the kid LIKES coffee, and you're not like shoving a ton down his throat, and it's NATURALLY producing BM's, who cares?

We just got WIC today, and I don't approve of over half the things they're going to give me because I don't think that they're all that healthy in the form they're giving them to me..

So yeah, I'm not getting them. Natural is the best way to go!
