Nursing school/no vax questions Mama Lizzy :] 1 child; Texas 5575 posts

So I am considering going to nursing school with hopes of becoming a CNM down the road.
I have an 18 month old...would it be a better route going straight into a 2 year nursing school program to get my rn and then bridge into my bsn orrrr. do bsn ( which I guess is two years of prerequisite? then 2 years of nursing school?)

I don't want to miss out on too much of his childhood :/..

Also do I have to HAVE to get immunizations?
Anyone know of a nurse who doesn't?

Here there isn't much difference between rn and bsn. The pay is only $1-2 difference starting out and without your bsn, you can't be in management or work as a school nurse. I'd check how your state is but I would go for rn

Not sure about the actual questions, but no you do not have to get vaccinations for your schooling, you can use your exemption unless it is a private school that does not use ANY federal funding, which is highly unlikely as there are tons of federal grants/scholarships used. As for when you are actually working, it will vary greatly on where you work and if they will allow the exemptions.

Well I need my bsn either way in order to become a cnm .....but I don't know what's easier....going to nursing school with a toddler (2-3) or a kid ( 4-5)

In Nevada they have an rn to bsn program as well that's a year long and all online. I'd see if they offer that near you!!

I would say either age will have its own set of challenges. With a toddler, they are still needy, and you will have to find time to study while chasing. With a school aged child you will be focusing on their schooling plus yours.

I want to homeschool but I guess I could put it off during nursing school.....or if I go the cpm route apprenticeship.

My Mom lives close and is pretty much always available....and offered to help with homeschool too...which is awesome...

Nice! Well, either way, you will have a set of challenges unique to the age. I say come up with a pro/con list for each age and see which challenges you'd rather face

I don't know about there ... but I know over here that no vaccinations = no practicals = no graduation.

Not sure. We don't have any birthing centers here connected to a hospital. Hell, we have I think 2 within 50 miles of me.
