FB friend request from my boss HamHam 18 kids; India 3485 posts

I just got a friend request from my boss ( I work for a non-profit organization of 58 employees). I don't like to have my co-workers on my friends list, let alone my boss. I use FB mostly to share photos and information with my family in other parts of the world, and don't really use it for much more than that. I am really particular about my list and although I like my boss, I'm just not comfortable with letting her into my life in this way. I'm not ashamed of anything I post and try not to get too political or opinionated about anything really, but I still don't like the idea of work intersecting with my "personal" life. I thought I had my name as "unsearchable" so I don't know how I even received the request.

So, what would you do? Accept? Reject? Why or why not?

Reject. If they bring it up, tell them you like your work and personal life to be separate.

I'd just ignore it and not accept or deny it. That's usually what I do.

Then if they ask I just claim I never got a request lol.

I clicked "not now" thinking it was an option to think about it. Will she see that it was "rejected"? I don't like to offend anyone but I also feel like people should think and not put me in this position. If I wanted to be friends on FB if send a request myself. I'm a new employee so I don't have a good sense of how she'd feel about a rejection. She might not care at all, but she might... I don't know!

I don't think she'll see it. But even if she does its doubtful she'll bring it up.

Not sure about that but I don't think she'd see it. I know I've added people before that didnt accept but I got no notification about it or anything. I think I heard with the not now option that'll it pop up again randomly sometime ask if you'll accept. Not sure though!

As a general rule of thumb I don't add work colleagues on my FB either. I would have either hit ignore or "later" too. I think there are settings where you could restrict what she sees tho if you do decide to accept the friend request
