No because alot of people around here use made up names or really trendy names. My daughter has a different name but its not made up or trendy.
I don't use a name that someone I know has used. There is a laundry list of names I absolutely love and would use in a heartbeat, but they are taken already. I most definitely wouldn't use a name that someone I didn't like already used.
my son has the same name as one of my cousins, but that was just coincidential, my husband always promised himself growing up that he was going to name his first boy robert anthony so we did, my cousin thinks we named our son after him though, it got annoying at first but its what ever. i don't like any of the names that everyone else i know has used so no i wouldn't ''steal'' a name, i have yet to meet a kid with the same name as my son or daughter
Yes but I don't consider it stealing unless the name is genuinely made up, like Abcde. Right before my son was born I found out an old friend named her son Oliver so I was begging DH if we could reconsider naming DS that. DH wouldn't budge. :x

Yeah, definitely wouldn't knowingly use the name of someone I didn't like either. Or the name of someone I have interactions with, even if casually. Although DS1 has the same "name" as a good friend of mine, but technically not. Mine is named after daddy and since the first name is so common in his family we use his initials, RJ. My friend also uses her son's initials because he was named after family, so he is also called RJ. It's a little weird, but she actually suggested I do it when I said I hated the idea of naming my son after anyone and definitely didn't want to call him by his middle name like daddy wanted. DS2 won't be a problem because Brighton is pretty uncommon and I've only run across it being used one other time here on BG, on a girl, with a weird spelling. DD is being named Calypso from Greek mythology. Definitely not common and I doubt I'll have to worry about name thieves with that. Then again, I might be surprised. LOL

I gave America her name on purpose, it was my great grandma's but I also didn't want a name anyone else would really use. Just before she was born my cousin's gf found out she was pregnant and tried to guilt trip me out of using the name :? She kept saying how much she's loved the name and always wanted to use it  b***h, please. She ended up using America's middle name instead :?

That would royally piss me off!!! My only concern is that my a*****e brother most of the family hasn't spoken too in nearly 12 years has his first baby due in June. I don't know what they are having nor do they live anywhere near us, but I'd probably flip my shit if they used any of the names on my favorites list. My guess is they'd either use a traditional biblical name, and I only like a few which DF doesn't, or some super trendy tabloid trash name that's not my style. So, I think we're goid. When I get a DD2 I'm pushing hard for Ophelia and nickname Pippie. DF is pushing for Piper instead (too common for me to want to use it) if I want to use Pippie. My mom told me to just use Pippie instead of it being a nickname, but I want an alternative that would work as an adult as well and be more professional. It's easier to get a nickname than a long-form name.

Meh......I had friend (ex friend now) who was pregnant at the same timr as me....we talked names back and forth and did not have similar names picked out. I came upon thr name Kierra and decided that was for sure what we were going to use. I told her that we were using kierra and she says. You can't. That was my secret name thay I plannee to use. I said well dh already decided and told family. I said I was sorry but I didn't know she was going to use it as she hadn"t told me. Shr flipped out and said. You can't use it. She was waiting until birth to know the sex. I said you don't even know what you are having. She saie well how about if I have a boy you can use it. I said no. I am using it. She freaked out anf posted all over facebook that she "came up with" Kierra first and "somebody" else was a copy cat. She called me selfish. I said whatever and deleted her. She ended up using the name Jayde and went arounf tellinh everyone I ruined the name Kierra for her. I personally did not care if we used the same name. We live 5 hours away from each other. I would not have used it if she had found the name and told me she liked it......I am not that upset about losing the friend ship anyway because she was a terrible friend. Always bringing ppl down....she even tried to bang dh when he was just my bf. Lol
I have talked to the girl maybe three times ever in my life. She wouldn't even know I"m having another baby. I don't really care if she gets mad or not lol. Like most of you said, people don't "own" names. And Andres was the ONLY name me and SO would agree on. We finally finalized his name this morning; Andres Alexis (pronounced Alex-ees)
