Im just curious. Unassisted as in no one trained in delivering babies present like a dr or midwife.

I would never do it. I'm not willing to risk my life or my child's.

I would never have one bc of my health risks, but I wouldn't judge someone who chooses to go through with it.

Your body, your choice. I think it would be an incredibly empowering experience... but I'm too sketchy about things going wrong to ever try it myself.

My cousin wanted to have one but I'm glad she didn't. (She was induced at 39 weeks for High blood pressure) she ended up pushing for over three hours and needed an emergency c section. He ended up in the nicu with a torn lung from distress of being stuck in the birth canal. That's why i would be to scared to have a home birth/ unassisted!!!

I would never take the chance of something terrible happening to my child or myself, but I wouldn't judge another mother for making that choice.
Ok maybe I'd secretly think she was a little nuts, but I wouldn't tell her that to her face....its her body and her choice.

I had one. Loved it, and never regretted my choice. I didn't want the danger of a hospital birth, and I had a midwife come after to check on my child and I.

I don't care about anyone else's birthing choice.

I was very close to having one with this past pregnancy because I was terrified of going to the hospital and didn't think I could afford a midwife. Unfortunately my water broke when I was 26 weeks so I obviously ended up in the hospital for quite a while(my worst effing nightmare) and so did my son :?
Next time I will have a homebirth with midwives and am definitely considering going unassisted in the future.

I planned a home birth with a mw with my first but had to transport to the hospital due to failure to progress after 45 hours. My experience was horrific! I was treated like crap. I had a successful home birth with my second with a midwife and LOVED it! I cant afford her this time around and am stuck going to the hospital and getting a male dr (which for my own reasons am extremely uncomfortable with) or an unassisted home birth... which also scares me because so many things can go wrong, but at this point I feel like im being forced to do it.

My daughter was born September 13, 2012 at 35 weeks.

She was an all natural UNPLANNED unassisted birth at a HOSPITAL.

Long labor story short, She was my second birth, I had not felt the pressure like I did with my first, My nurse checked me at 7cm and waited 5 mins after to go get the delivery table that has all the tools on it, About 2 mins after she walked out of the room my body started pushing on its own and there was nothing I could do about it, there was NO holding it back at all. My SO ran into the hall to get a nurse, she came into the room didnt see me crowning so ran to get towels but before she could get back into my room I got one HUGE pressure and had to roll from my side to my back, As soon as my body forced one last push, she just slid out onto the bed, seconds later the nurse comes back with towels and a shocking site to see I had delivered all by myself.

Yes because of her gestational age she ended up in NICU but it was not the fault of the hospital, My body new what it was doing and took over at the end. It was scary but I would have an unassisted birth again in a heart beat! Made me feel very powerful as a women =) My daughter came come 3 days later and is now almost 8 months old, happy healthy and beautiful!

I also want to add Im high risk, VERY high risk, I have to take blood thinners and a number of other meds while pregnant and only have a 20% chance to make it past 7 weeks. My daughter also had a 2 vessel cord..

I would consider one if my pregnancy was healthy. :)

Google mothering unasissted, it's a forum on mothering.com that is specifically for UC'ers.

If you choose to UC you HAVE to be research to the absolute best of your ability. The women on there are no fools, we've researched so we know what to do should something go wrong. Also you have other children so you know your body well.
