Quoting Squeaky McGee [28 wks]:" Sound waves. If they were so dangerous, they wouldn't be used so frequently to diagnose a variety of medical conditions. Ultrasounds are wonderful because they're non-invasive, cheap and safe!"

LOL yep sound waves. :D Either way, no 3rd arms or mysterious ultrasound burns. :)

Someone once told me that too many ultrasounds will deafen a child.

I remember someone posting some conspiracy links a while back about babies flinching away from the dangerous and painful wands during an U/S. For me, no U/S = delivery at 23 weeks. With U/S = full term delivery. It's obviously more complicated than that, but it was a big part of keeping that under control. So embarrassing to type in light waves though. Apparently I've been watching too much star trek lately...

With my first pregnancy I had 2. The first for dating at about 12-13 weeks, and the second for anatomy around 20 weeks.

With my second pregnancy I had a different doc, and he did one at every visit just because he wanted to  Insurance didn't pay for it, so he didn't charge for it. And as far as I can tell it didn't damage my son. Sure he doesn't listen well, but that's not because he can't hear me, it's because he's 2

This time around I'm going to decline all but the 2 essential ones.

With all three of my kids I had a dating scan at 8 weeks and 4 days (weird huh) then with the first two, one at 12-13 weeks for DS testing, but they were too big to do the measurements, then again all 3 at 20 weeks for anatomy scan. With my second son I knew something was wrong so I was sent for an ultrasound at 30ish weeks to check everything but he was quite small for his gestation, I had another ultrasound two weeks after that one to check his growth was appropriate... It wasn't, so midwives and drs all spoke for a couple of weeks and decided to induce me at nearly 37 weeks.

Now 26 weeks and 5 days and i'll be getting an ultrasound next week to check if this bub is a good size, then another at around 32 weeks to make sure she has grown appropriately.

It all depends on your pregnancy. I'm high risk because my lil one only has a 2 vessel cord instead of 3 and I have low amniotic fluid. With the 2 vessel cord you get on every 3-4 weeks. But currently I am getting an ultrasound and a NST twice a week until I deliver. They are hinting about inducing me next week.
