If there were to be a zombie apocalypse... MommyToWesley 1 child; Delaware 3847 posts

DH, his BFF and I were watching "Exit Humanity" last night (bad movie, btw; I wouldn't recommend it) and were talking "what if's".
If there were to be a zombie apocalypse, do you think animals would become infected as well? Would they, in turn, infect humans?
If so, I think everyone would be screwed.

Yes, these are the kind of things we seriously discuss when hanging out with friends. :P

Aren't most diseases specialized to just one species? I'm not sure how that works.

I don't think they would become infected. Most human diseases don't effect animals. Kwim?

It would make sense that animals could get infected.. Though, the cause for turning into a zombie would need to be isolated to see if was even possible to pass on to animals/livestock and/or if they could pass it on..

But then my mind wanders to infected blood poisoning the soil and ruining crops. Then people eating crops could get infected...

...I'm not looking forward to a zombie apocalypse, now. LOL

That makes sense. I don't know why we didn't think of that!
So would a bite just not affect an animal at all, then?

 I didn't think of that! And water supply! Isn't that how everyone became infected in "The Crazies"?

I think if the animal was bitten it more than likely would be eaten all together so it wouldn't matter? If the animal got away then I would think it would be just like a bite from any other animal.

Never saw that movie..

But every time DH brings up the zombie apocalypse, I always bring up the what-ifs... Nobody really knows how the "first" zombies will happen - or how it'll spread.. So really, everything is fair game... Potentially, everything could become toxic.. Soil/plants, water, animals.. heck, even oxygen could be contaminated!

There goes Earth.

That sounds interesting? Do you remember what it was called?

I think that may be kind of the premise behind "The Walking Dead" tv show. Basically, everything has become infected, so the virus is inside of everyone. It doesn't actually manifest until the people die, however.
