Day off from dieting/exercising? ERMAGHERD BEEDS! 17 kids; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 4099 posts

If you are dieting or exercise regularly just to maintain or to lose weight, do you take a day off? Do you think it helps or hurts?

I sort of accidentally took a day off from my diet on Sunday and still went from 175 to 170 this week. So I'm wondering if I should start doing one.

If you do one do you do it once a week or once a month orrrr what?

I know you're supposed to take a day off from working out, I just have a hard time doing that when I have so much weight to lose, I'm scared of losing my motivation. My day off from dieting wasnt super extreme, I just had a huge dinner

Im working on changing my entire lifestyle..So the way I look at it is that I have 60+ years to work on my food choices and exercise/weight

I dont take days off...I try to do my best daily..>However if I see something I want, I eat it. Moderation is key.

If you stick to something strict all the tme, youre not likely to continue that for long.

All of this. The best way to go is not to restrict what you eat but how much of it you eat. I've lost over 15 pounds by simply eating slowly and small amounts. Then you can eat whatever you want. Moderation is truly the key here. Exercise is different though. You need a day of rest occasionally to let your muscles recover.

I mean I've been dieting steadily for 2 months and don't hold myself back from things I want, I eat smaller portions and exercise more. I've lost 30 pounds so far without starving myself. I'm just asking because I dropped a LOT of weight really quickly this week with the day "off" on Sunday.

I take days off. Like once or twice a week. But I do exercise 6-7 times a week. I don't take days off from that. I do eat whatever I want on the days I take off, but in moderation. I don't eat a whole large pizza to myself like I used to lol

I lost 25 lbs by just eating better. If I feel like the occasional ice cream or beer or bad food, I will eat it, but moderation is key.

Do I recommend you plan a day to go smash on fried chicken, french fries, cake, ice cream, etc...No lol

Do I have days & will you that you just want different things that arent so healthy..Yea & I eat them.

I dont think a planned day is necessary, I think they generally just happen & I dont think your "rest day" had to do with the weight loss. That fluctuation is normal...Did you perhaps have more water around that time?

I feel like this is pretty much what I'm asking about, lol...

Have you lost a lot? Do you feel healthy?

No, but I did walk 4 extra miles twice this week to avoid taking the bus, lol

I thiiiink maybe the idea of having taken the day "off" on Sunday probably motivated me to exercise a little bit harder this week

I was 175 when I had my son and now I fluctuate between 118-122. :) I'm just maintaining right now.

And also I feel a lot healthier. I've had days where I eat like crap though, and I feel like crap for days after. I can't handle junk food anymore. It makes me feel disgusting and tired.

Yeah, I had two veggie burgers with buns on Sunday night plus baked beans and Mac n cheese and I felt like garbage the next day

That's how I feel too. It actually makes me sick to my stomach.
