I haven't had a chance to update anyone on here. We didn't get our grant for IVF that we were hoping for. Kinda lost, not sure what to do now. We were going to sign up for foster parenting licensing again but my husband and I are having a little bit of second thought. We got a phone call today that there isn't actually a list that people sign up on to get safe haven babies, they have to be a foster parent. We have been through this and I don't want to get raked in again like we did before. We were misled and I really do not want to go through that heart ache again. Feeling completely lost and unhappy....

What's your diagnosis?

We got a credit card with 0% interest for one year to pay for our first round of IVF. It worked out really well. Also have you shopped around to different fertility clinics? Prices vary by a pretty huge amount.

My diagnosis is Turner Syndrome, I have no eggs :( We have our IVF debt on a credit card right now, over $20,000 in debt :( Our monthly payment is $330.00, sometimes we pay more if we can afford it that month. It just sucks to have all this debt and have no baby....

Ugh yeah that does suck. I'm sorry. We've had to put so much financial stuff on hold because we're still paying for fertility treatments. I assume you used donor eggs for your IVF cycle. How many embryos were you able to get? Donor eggs are usually the best bet for getting pregnant. Again, I'm sorry. :(

Yes, we used donor eggs. My sister actually donated eggs for us. We had ten harvested and 5 fertilized. All 5 froze fine as well. We were going to do a fresh cycle but my uterus filled up with fluid, so we had no choice but to do a frozen cycle. Now we can not afford to do another cycle or even adopt....

My sister is my egg donor as well! I hate to risk insulting your intelligence by asking, but have you looked into embryo adoption?

No, I have actually only just heard of it. Do you know how to go about it. Is it expensive?

I actually don't know a whole lot about it as we've been blessed with many good quality embryos (I have sticky issues), so I've never taken a really serious look at it. From what I understand there are some costs associated with the adoption of the embryos and I'm not sure what those costs are (legal fees etc.) But for the medical side to it it's just an embryo transfer, which at my clinic is about $1,500. Certainly do look into it. I would first start with your RE or another fertility center as that may be one way to avoid some costs associated with obtaining the embryos. There are also organizations that connect donors to those looking for embryos, such as Miracles Waiting.

Found this on Miracles Waiting -

What are the costs associated with embryo donation for the recipients?

As with most medical procedures, costs will vary depending on the individual patient, clinic used, and insurance coverage (if any). Some sample costs are given below, just for informational purposes:

miraponto.jpg Retesting of donors for infectious diseases

$100 - $500

miraponto.jpg
Infectious disease screening of recipient
$100 - $500

miraponto.jpg Legal contract
$500 - $1,500
may vary greatly

miraponto.jpg Shipping of embryos
$200 - $500

miraponto.jpg Prescription drugs
$500 - $2,500

miraponto.jpg Blood work and ultrasounds
$500 - $2,000

miraponto.jpg Frozen Embryo Transfer

$900 - $4,000+
may vary greatly

Some of those top end prices are grossly inflated, so don't let them scare you. For example meds cost me at MOST $300. The price of ultrasounds and bloodwork is usually included with the price of the transfer (the $1,500 price I quoted you includes meds, ultrasounds AND transfer). Also infectious screening very well may be covered by your and the donor's insurance.
