Freezer nightmare...please help user banned
20th May '13

So somehow my freezer popped open. I'm not sure how long it was open, but EVERYTHING thawed or melted. Puddles of who knows exactly where everything. Is anything salvageable/still safe to eat? Or do I need to toss it all and restock my freezer?

It had ice cream, chicken breasts (uncooked), ground turkey meat, shrimp, frozen dinners, corn dogs, cool whip, chicken nuggets, frozen pizzas, hot pockets, and I don't know what else.

I know I can refreeze the ice pops, but other than that, I honestly don't know.

Thanks!

I'd throw it all out.

I wouldn't, but I feel your pain. :( our fridge went out and we didn't realize until it was too late for everything in it. We had just gone to the grocery store. And all my pumped milk went bad!

I'd personally toss everything but the popsicles.

Chicken is good as long as it isnt over 40 degrees for an hour. If the hotpockets are still cold they should be fine

Anything processed like the corndogs and pizza should still be fine as long as they were still cold to the touch, slightly warm amd toss it.

Aside form the popsicles, the cool whip would probably be fine to refreeze. Everything else I would toss and rebuy.

Serious tears involved. I had to go to work the next day and had no milk and it was like, 11:00 at night when I realized. Luckily, we found someone willing to donate for the day.

I'm not sure how long the door was open. I've been gone since like 7:45am (it's 11pm here now). I didn't notice it open this morning, but I wasn't in the fridge or freezer

If it is still cold cook what you can , except the veggies, and refreeze.

I didn't even think of this!

Unfortunately, I'll probably end up just tossing it all :/ it's 11pm and the last thing I want to do is cook a bunch of food.
