which car would you rather have? Love! 18 kids; California 1989 posts

My husband and I sre looking for a pre owned car & are paying cash so we don't have to take out a loan & with that being said we don't have tons of options. We have narrowed it down to:

2010 Toyota Corolla LE with 88,000 miles....
OR
2010 Hyundai Sonata GLS with 77,000 miles.

The Hyundai is $500 cheaper.

We'd obviously like the car to last a several years. I know those two have tons of miles but we wont be driving a ton either. I've heard tons of positives about Toyotas but does anybody know anything about Hyundai's and their life spans?

Thanks!

Hyundai's seem to be very comparable to Toyotas and Hondas. I'd say either is a safe bet.

Toyota. Always either a Toyota or Honda, I don't want anything to do with any other make of car. Hyundai's suck, generally.

Hyundai's are great. (I sell used cars). The sonata is bigger than the corolla and I think you would be happier with the space. It will last just as long as toyota would. Toyota has had a lot of problems and recalls in the last few years as well so we are seeing less people buying them at work.

Personally, I'd take the Toyota. My sister has a 2001 Toyota Corolla, and that things is still running strong 13 years later, with over 150,000 miles on it. She loves her car.

seems like Toyotas are always getting recalled for something.

Neither... That's tremendously high mileage for that year of vehicle.

Word of mouth can be such a bad thing. They really aren't bad. The most common car we have problems with are Ford and Dodge. Kia, Hyundai are popular in every other country but here, my Asian customers always buy Kia or Hyundai now, they used to always buy honda and toyota.
But I will say that for Hyundai, 2011 and up are best.

:!: :!:
My 2010 Hyundai has just about 45000 miles on it, and that is with several trips from NC to PA each year (1000 miles round trip)

I know this, but we only have 11,000 to spend and in our area there are not many options for that price. Even the older vehicles have the same if not more miles. Unless I buy a salvaged car which we are not interested in..

True that. My '10 barely just hit 40k last week.

Are you guys willing to travel a couple hours in either direction to find a better deal? My parents drove 3 hours to buy a car that was a way better deal than anything down here.
