Vent about new OB Addy & Grace & Owen's Mom ; 3 kids; Michigan 1333 posts

I had my 12 week appointment today and they have a new temporary OB in the office until August when they will hire a new doctor. My favorite OB in the practice just retired. Anyway I hated this doctor. He was rude and didn't really seem to care. I have lost 15lbs since I got pregnant and he was pretty much telling me that I have to start taking reglan every 4 hours and Zofran as well so I don't lose any more weight. I am not super skinny and I could stand to lose a few pounds. Its not like I am trying to lose weight. I'm just that sick. I get that I am pregnant, but I never thought that it was a big deal since I have been so sick that I've lost weight. I'm still eating and forcing myself to drink water. Baby is healthy and looks to be right on track. I told him I am not comfortable taking those meds especially since I took Zofran in my last pregnancy and my daughter was born with a tumor in her liver. It could have been caused from anything, but I cant help but worry. I am not willing to take any chances.

I also have what I suspect to be an umbilical hernia and he wouldn't even feel or look at my belly. He just blew it off. And I have been having increased pain with it. To ease my mind I think he could have at least addressed the issue. And he was extremely rude when I tried asking any questions. I am so annoyed right now. All the other OBs in this practice are awesome and this guy was a complete a*****e. I will go out of my way just to make sure I never have another appointment with him. Thank god he will be gone in a few months and wont be around for delivery. Also how much water does your OB suggest drinking a day?

He's right about you needing to not lose any more weight.

Did you physically ask him to look at it? Like say "no really, look at this" and lift up your shirt?

I sorry you have a stupid doctor. My Drs never gave me a recommendation about the water though. As long as you are eating and such and baby is fine, I see no reason that you HAVE to take the medicine if you feel you don't need too.

I won't take nausea mess either. When I heard what was happening in the sixties I was like wow what is taking zofran gonna be linked to?!? But anyways this is exactly why I am so thankful we have 1 OB and 3 NP in my docs while practice!

Yeah, but a lot of women do lose a lot of weight during that time. I lost the same amount and they didn't push me to take anything.

I never did gain weight when I was pregnant with my youngest, and I was healthy, my morning sickness wasn't even that bad. I just turned old baby weight into new baby lol. How much have you lost and over how much time?

Your baby gets your nutrients first, however that puts YOU at risk when you, the oven, do not have the proper electricity to bake anymore. Taking something to allow your body to intake nutrients is very clearly a good idea.

I've lost 15lbs in 12 weeks. I have also cleaned up my diet too. I gave up drinking coke. I gave up sweets etc.. due to already being borderline GD. They tested me early because I had GD in my last pregnancy.

Then I wouldn't worry about the weight loss. If you are eating better and being better about your diet you are gonna lose!

Temp doctors pretty much always suck, since they can't find a permanent office.

My mom had a temp oncologist doctor tell my mom that that the lumps showing on the outside of her breast were a fungal infection and told her to put some monistat on it. It turns out *surprise* her breast cancer was back.

I wouldn't worry about the weight loss, my nausea went away around 14 weeks and you are nearly there. Your baby is getting the nutrients it needs, especially if you were over weight before hand.

ETA: You should be drinking about a 2 liter of liquids a day.

Are you able to keep what you keep down when you eat and drink? If not then I would be concerned...if you can then I would just keep an eye on things.

I have been able to keep food and water down for the most part. I feel miserable but I just fight the urge to throw up most of the time.

I thought about 2 liters was about right. I think that's what I did with all my other pregnancies and never had any problems. This doctor told me to drink at least 4 liters a day. If I did that I would never leave the bathroom. I'd be peeing all day and night long.
