I told my L&D story this morning. http://forum.baby-gaga.com/about2503293.html
Between 1:15 and 1:30 pm, the doctor broke my water. I told the doc and the nurse that once he did that, things would go quickly. About 35 minutes later I started to feel pressure(a LOT of pressure) and it was very uncomfortable. I called the nurse and told her the IV bag had run out and I was feeling a LOT of pressure. She came in about 2:15 or so, and checked me. Fully effaced and dilated. They nurses started getting everything ready, the drapes, towels, etc. Once the nurse told me, "on this next contraction, you're going to push" I felt the contraction and started pushing. About 5 or 6 pushes later(no joke), Drystan Alastair Mathias V----- was born at 2:40 pm, weighing 6 lbs 7 oz, and was 20 inches long.
No, my due date was not off, the ultrasounds I had at 8 and 10 weeks confirmed the dates.
I did get to have the two things I really wanted for his birth. Delayed cord cutting until the placenta stopped pulsing and he got all his blood in his body, and no scrubbing of his vernix off. I feel great physically. The epidural has almost completely worn off(I could move my right leg on my own all day, but my left was heavy and "dead" all day). I will be up walking around soon, thank goodness!
Aw congrats!! I've never heard of the vernix thing. Why didn't you want it off?
Is he in the nicu? How are you both doing? Congrats.
<blockquote><b>Quoting PurpleBama582:</b>" It helps them regulate their body temperature more with it left on than if it's washed off. My older ... [snip!] ... the vernix off, I thought it was at least worth a shot. We're doing pretty well so far, just seeing if it stays that way. "</blockquote>
Oh ok! Won't hurt to try. :)
Quoting Loka Lokita:" Is he in the nicu? How are you both doing? Congrats."
Nope. No NICU for him, thankfully. My local hospital doesn't have one, he would have had to go at LEAST 2 hours away for less extensive care, but 4 hours away for the more major issues. We are both doing very well. Once he got the latch down, he really started getting the hang of breast feeding. I was afraid he wouldn't, but he's a champ.

that's comforting! I've been in pre term labor for a while now and I'm 33 weeks...with a boy. Hopefully he stays in longer but it's reassuring to hear another preemie is doing so well. Congrats again!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! AAaahhhhhhh! Can't wait for pics later! Glad you're all doing so well!!!!
Congrats!!! Our sons middle name will be Alistair as well, love it!.
