have you ever had a D&C? ShanShan07 Due June 3; 2 kids; 2 angel babies; Tillamook, Oregon 553 posts

I should be 8 weeks 3 days along today. When I was 6 wks 4 days I had an ultrasound which showed a healthy heartbeat and baby beginning to grow.Today I went in for my normal baby check apointment and found out the baby had stop growing sometime after I had my ultrasound. There is no heartbeat. I have the choice of waiting for a miscarraige to happen by its self or have a D&C. My question is what should I expect if i choose a D&C, is there any chances of not being able to get pregnant again if i get a d&c and how devastating/tramatizing was it?

I'm sorry. :( I had a D&C after my miscarriage. There wasn't anything traumatic about it... nothing can beat the heartbreak of losing a pregnancy.

I was sore for a couple days afterwards, and I bled for about two weeks. There shouldn't be any reason why you can't get pregnant afterwards, most doctors just want you to wait until after you have a period.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.
I had a m/c last March and it was the hardest thing I ever had to go through. I didn't have to get a d&c, it happened all naturally. I hope you're doing ok though, if you need anyone to talk to you can message me any time. I know how heartbreaking this is. :(

I would wait to see if your body will do it on it's own IMO. I had one and not only are they expensive, but it's harder on your body. I had nightmares that the baby was really alive and they still went through with it. I had a healthy pregnancy after my d&c. I'm sorry you're going through something so painful.

I have multiple miscarraiges. I would choose a d and c personally. The worst of it is done then and you can focus on moving forward.

Miscarrying and passing the tissue naturally was the most traumatising thing I have been through. I had late miscarraiges though, 11-13 weeks 4 times.

I had a d&c on August 20th 2012 because they thought I had a molar pregnancy but turns out it was just an abnormal growth. They said I had to have a d&c because when they thought it was a molar pregnancy they said it wouldn't miscarry on its own so I didn't have a choice. I went to the hospital and they prepped me and put me to sleep. I hurt for a few days and bled for a week but when I had my next period it did hurt a lot. I have heard you can get pregnant faster after a d&c. I'm sorry for what you have to deal with and good luck :(

I just wanted to add that I had a still born at 23 weeks alone and I would still rather my body pass it, bit that's just my experience. Again I'm terribly sorry for your loss.

I had a d&c. Mine was pretty painful and the bleeding lasted about 2 weeks. It was just a few months ago and we are trying again. If I had to choose again I would still have the d&c. My doctor had the tissue tested. It turned out the baby and placenta were abnormal and would have never survived. That gave me a peace of mind knowing it wasn't something I did to lose the baby,

I had a d&c back in June the day I was supposed to be 15 weeks. The baby had died between 12 and 13 weeks but I had no idea until 2 days before my d&c. The baby obviously wasn't passing on its own so I chose to do the procedure. I ended up pregnant again 8 months later and that was also after being on the Depo shot for 3 months and having the Paragard IUD for 5 months. I am currently 15 weeks 3 days and baby is perfectly healthy.

I had a D&C in October of 2011. I was supposed tobe about 7 weeks, but no heartbeat.
I was put to sleep for it. Woke up with spotting and cramps. Was told to refrain from sex/heavy lifting for at least two weeks, and sent home with a prescription for vicodin.
My period returned about 5 weeks later.
I just had a healthy baby girl 22 days ago.
Best of luck.

I just wanted to add further to my other post that in Australia you are put to sleep for d and c's, I'm assuming this isn't usual practice in America? so maybe my opinion earlier is irrelevant.

Congrats on your baby girl
