I will try to sum this story up as best I can. My best friend and I are in school together and one of our classmates became a mutual friend. My friend and he became close while he had us under the assumption he was gay. Well time went by and he grew an infatuation with my best friend and started to become over baring so she tried to step back from him. He has since been angry about it so has continously harassed my friend, verbally abused her, implied he wanted to hurt her and has threatened her. She had saved texts and screen shots of all this and conveniently while her phone was in her personal drawer at school unattended some how all of this evidence is now gone. My friend hasn't done anything about it because she smokes weed, though in the comfort of her own home it's still something he has over her to keep her fearful of taking any steps. I am scared and honestly sick for her because I just want to help her and protect her. I don't know if there's anything I can do personally but this is a very serious situation and enough is enough. Any advice I can give to her or to help her would be appreciated very much. TIA.

She needs to get out. You can help her all she wants, but unless she wants to get out or get help, she will stay where she is. It's a horribly sad thing to watch.

She needs to file a restraining order against him. If she can somehow get the text messages, she may be able to check with her carrier about them, she will have the proof no matter what he says. Filing a restraining order won't cause either of them to go to court unless she files harassment charges as well.

They are not in a relationship. He has been our friend for about 9 months and just developed a unrequited infatuation with my friend. That he has taken to the point of vindictive obsession.

She needs to call the cops and then get a restraining order. It doesn't matter if she smokes weed as long as she doesn't fire a joint up in front of the cop.

She still needs to seek help. Preferably from the police. I'm not sure what they can do if she no longer has proof. I'm no expert, but I have watched friends suffer from abusive relationships. While they aren't in a relationship, his actions are the same as those abusers I've seen.

That's what I gathered and I told her. Hopefully she will take some action because it won't stop other wise.

One of my best friends died on Mother's Day. Nothing has been confirmed, but based on what has been released to the press and information from her family, it seems like her abusive husband did it. She and her one year old were supposed to be leaving him, again, on Monday, according to her mom. People really do die from things like this.

She should have done it when she had the proof. If she calls the cops to come to her house to at least file a report and start the process, there wouldn't be much they could do about her pot use. As long as it isn't oit where the cop could see it or anything like that. And she could go down to the station and do it as well, she just shouldn't smoke a blunt on the way and don't habe any on her while she's there.

In AZ, I was able to get an order of protection against somebody who was harassing me and threatening me, at 18 weeks pregnant, with no "proof" other than my own word.

I went to the courthouse, filled out some paperwork with my account of his actions, and they filed it. Then, it went to the judge who talked to me about what was going on & accepted it. She MIGHT need proof if he contests it and it goes to a hearing, but at least this will buy her some time if it's an option for her. I hope she gets away from that creep ASAP :(

She can get phone records from her provider.
