Not me! But my MIL! She went to the hospital the 21st for chest pains shortness of breath etc. She got admitted and she's been there since. At first they were saying pneumonia, tuberculosis. They are going to do a test bronoscopy on her i think bc the stuff they found her her chest isn't going away. Well yesterday she found out she's HIV positive. Just looking for some info on all this? Similar stories? Do you think she will be alright?

They have a lot of different options as far as medicine goes for hiv. She will really need emotional support from all of you now

Treatment these days for HIV is amazing. Nothing like it used to be. The man who raised me was HIV positive, and he developed AIDS, died from related complications when I was 9 almost 10 years old. This was in the 90s and the stigma was terrible, more than the disease it was awful how parents wouldn't let their kids play at our house, they blamed him for his own illness, said he "got what he deserved". Truth is, you and anyone around her need to be HIV "positive" too. Do not let her diagnosis change how much you hug her, how often you're around her, etc. With proper treatment people with HIV/AIDS live healthy lives for 25+ years these days. Who knows, they may have a cure in that time! Be prepared that the diagnosis will make people that you tell uncomfortable sometimes, but own it. She needs love and support now more than ever!

I saw something about a baby being born with HIV an with all the treatments they did they completely got rid of it. We're getting really close to a cure.

This was an excellent response. Just don't treat her any different than you would normally. :)

Love her like there is no tomorrow. Treat her with kindness and allow her to go through the obvious and not so obvious stages of grief. While you know that this does not change who she is, She may feel for a while that it does. Just be strong and loving and supportive and yall will get through it <3 Hugs

Thanks everyone! She is really upset! I'm hoping ever is okay with whatever is in her chest. My dad died 3 months ago today. He had a mass in his lung and everything she is describing the tests everything is exactly what he went through. He had lung cancer and was only 53:( He had 4 grandchildren and 1 on the way. And a great grandchild on the way. It's awful. My SO knows how much this sounds like it And its really hurting him.
