Chlamydia... Rawr ღ 1 child; New Jersey 768 posts

So, when I was about 35 weeks pregnant I had sex with BD and didn't do anything again.. At 36-37 I had a papsmear for STD's and everything came out clean. I haven't had sex since pregnancy. Anyways, around March I went in to get a check up and got tested at Planned Parenthood. A few days ago I got a call and it said that I'm positive for Chlamydia but I don't see how it's possible since I was tested at the end of my pregnancy and I was completely clean.. I also had a uncomplicated vaginal birth and baby was fine. Has this happened to anyone before? I made an appointment with a private gynecologist on the 6th but I can't help but worry.. I did have BV recently but got treated, I don't have any symptoms either.

It is possible to get an STD through dirty public toilet seats and trying on underwear/swimsuit bottoms without leaving your underwear on. It is rare though.

Are you sure they tested for STDs at that last appt? If so... maybe it was wrong. Or maybe they reported it wrong  Why did they do a pap so late in pregnancy?

They wanted to check for Strep B and any STD's/bacterial infections.

It could have been a lab mix up I guess.
Chlamydia can look like BV. Chlamydia is just a bacterial infection.

I once went to the hospital and was told I had a UTI, treated it and then 4 months later they called and said they made a mistake and I had an std. Honestly I think some people don't know how to do their jobs and things slip between the cracks.

I thought it could lay dormant?

:!: are you sure they tested for std's? It's a misconception that they always test for them. In actuality they usually don't unless asked to. In pregnancy they do an std test but it's usually much earlier than 34-36wks.

I've never looked up chlamydia, but I think some stds have like a dormant period. So, if you had sex at 35 weeks and were tested at 36-37 weeks maybe it hadn't had time to get into your system or whatever.

Another answer could be that the clinic got the lab work wrong.

Or your doctors office got their lab work wrong.

I was having abnormal discharge so they checked for gonorrhea and chlamydia.

I had one at 8 weeks and then the second at 36 weeks and a few days.

Webmd said it can take 1-3 weeks for symptoms to show up but I couldn't find a reliable source for how long it can remain dormant just that many STD's can have a long dormant period.

I googled after I posted, and I saw on one medical site (I'm mobile, so I can't pull both up at the same time) and it said that there could be a dormancy of like up to a year.

But supposedly it doesnt cause symptoms sometimes.. It scares me because LO is almost 9 months so that means I've had it for nearly a whole year & it could cause infertility in the future.
