But wouldn't you still test positive even if there weren't any symptoms?

According to a friend of mine who got chlamydia the first time she had sex, she tested positive for it right away.. She went like 2 days later for some testing and it came up that she had it.. She received the results about 2 weeks after getting the tests done though..

Not if it were dormant. Which basically means that the infection is in your system, but isn't active... I'm not the best at describing it, but it can take up to a year to test positive for some stds.

I just read on a website on Google that says it can be silent for years but will show up with tests.

I had sex with someone and a week later got checked for STDs .. Everything came back fine. I went back 3 months later for abnormal discharge and it came up positive for chlamydia meanwhile I didn't have sex with anyone else.

It can take a while to come back positive.

Did you have any complications from it? If I do have it than I've had it for almost a year.

Here is the link to the article that discusses the dormancy.

Each case is different, and I hope yours is a lab error, but do know that it is possible. Especially if it were 1-2 weeks after having sex that you tested clean.

I've had it twice. Once for 3 months and the other time for 10 months. No complications and had two babies after that without complications.
