what do you think makes them different? at what point do you consider someone to be either? how would you determine which one they have?

hmm that's a good question. I seriously cannot think of a single thing to differentiate the two

Well for me I guess I would say that Addictions are often physically driven while obsessions tend to be more mentally driven. Least thats how I view it.
Google it..I found a TON of examples of the differences between addition and obsession.

Well for me I can give up what I'm obsessed with but my addictions took over my life and it took a long time for me to give them up. I still think about them every day, I still miss them, so I stay away.

Things I am obsessed with don't have the same control I suppose.
Then again I loose interest in things real quick.

You crave things when you have an addiction, you need it and will suffer mentally and physically If you don't get it

If you're obsessed with a tv show and it ends you won't go into shock or withdraw

My opinion

Addiction is more of a physical reaction. Like it's a thing in your brain. Obsession is more of a fictionally mental thing. Like you consciously obsess about something, but with addiction it is more of a subconscious thing.

I think addiction is more physical than mental and an obsession is more mental than physical.
