So tonight I undressed to get in the shower, and when I looked in the mirror I noticed that from the top of where my breasts began all the way down to where they end, my breasts were bright red as if sunburned.
This really freaked me out, as it's not something I notice but just looking down at them.
I am mostly formula feeding my baby, and only pumping about twice a day because of problems I had with dehydration. Other information is sometimes my boobs REALLY itch or occasionally I will get shooting pains in my nipples. My boobs are NOT hard like a rock.
So I guess I'm just wondering if it's normal to get completely fire red boobs when the rest of my body is regular skin color. It's not red right after I pumped, the last time I pumped was about 10 hours ago.
Has anyone ever had this happen before and do you know what caused it? Is it something I should be concerned about?
Are you using nipple cream?
I'd maybe call your doctor or lactation consultant tomorrow- mastitis can make your boobs really red and hot.
Do you have a fever at all?
Could be mastitis or yeast. Since you're pumpin only a couple times a day it could be not emptying the breast completely which can cause bothof those. And both would need treatment with meds. So either way call a dr ASAP or go to urgent care tomorrow.
I do not have a fever and also do not use nipple cream. It's frustrating because I try researching what it might be and the only results I get are red patches on the breast or red nipples related to thrush or mastitis. But my ENTIRE breast is red and I can't find anything on that.
