My son is 4 and a half and he doesn't seam to have any interest in painting or drawing proper pictures, he still just scribbles. I've tried asking him to draw things and he will maybe start and then just scribble over it! He starts school in 10 weeks time and I'm worried he's going to be behind the other kids.
I wouldn't worry about it. Can he write his name? My daughter started j/k at 4 and she couldn't really do it, but now at the end of the year she can write her whole name and draw some cute pictures. Sometimes it takes a school setting to get them motivated for stuff like that.
My son does the same thing. He draws stick figures and stuff like that but still would rather just scribble. He just finished a year of headstart (he won't be able to go to kindergarten until next August bc he has a late birthday...) he'll be five in December...
Sort of. He copies what I write but it doesn't really look the same. I don't know if he's lazy or just struggling! :(

well it definitely won't look the same at 4 yrs old. But copying is a good start. He just may not be interested in that stuff yet and there is really no problem with that. I wouldn't say he is lazy or struggling at all, kids will learn at their own pace. If he wants to learn to write his name or draw a picture and he practices everyday and still can't do it? Then maybe start worrying. But if he's just like, meh... he's just not interested and it will come in time.
My daughter is 5 and starting Kindergarten in the fall. She has no interest in writing or drawing or coloring. She just scribbles
I know she CAN write her name and make pictures. She just doesn't want to. And that is okay. Not all kids like to color and draw and write.
