okay, so DD is only one so idk if it may just be me.

just heard in the news that an 8 yr old was home alone was saved from a house fire!
this is only one reason i'd NEVER consider leaving an 8 yr old alone.

and just now, because some kid was recording his graduation with his smart phone, they're withholding his transcript "because he interrupted graduation". WTF is wrong with these people!? things with schools are getting so ridiculous! and people wonder why i plan to Home school!

It is alright to leave your 8 year old alone, but not for extended periods of time. I know I was told not to touch the stove or microwave.

I'd never leave an 8 year old home alone. 12 is the minimum for me

Most states "don't have a set age." As a general guideline some experts recommend a child be 12, but they also say that it depends on maturity level. If I stayed home my mom has the type of job where she could come home every couple hours to check on me.

Yeah I don't think I would do it either. I know seeing my 8 year old sister, she is not mature enough to stay alone. But during the school year I think I would go home and within an hour someone was home with me.

My parents would leave me at home when I was 8. Usually if my mom had to go to the grocery store to get something for dinner, it was only literally 2-3 minutes away, so she could be gone maybe 10 mins. I guess it really just depends on the kid.

And I'm insanely disappointed with the public school system. Gahhh, yuck!! I wish we could do homeschooling. I'm hoping we can find like a little home group that is home schooling. If not, private school is our route probably.

In my state there's a law that you can't leave a kid under 12 (I think) alone. I'm sure that's the case in other states.

Most states don't have a law about that actually.

It really depends on the child. I was left home alone younger than that, sometimes in charge of my disabled step sister. Times have changed though
