My first I quit at 2 weeks. My second I had a ton of supply issues with and she basically self weaned around 9/10 months.

I HAD to stop at one month at birth I HAD to supplement with formula I had a complicated labor and it took a few days for my milk to come in. Any way my son had/has a serious medical condition and between living at wic, the doctors office, and the hospital I couldn't eat enough to produce enough milk not to mention the stress my family was going thru with CPS being called as they thought I was starving my child. I had originally planned to EBF for at least the 1st year if not longer. He is now a very big very healthy happy 8 month old who is very tall for his age :) Good luck momma glad BF has worked for you!!

just an FYI it takes a few days for EVERYONE's milk to come in. The first milk is always colostrum. With my first it took until day 4 for my milk to come in. sorry it didn't work out for you.

The reason I was really asking is because quite a few people are already asking me when DS is going to wean and when I'm going to quit breastfeeding.. DS is only 4 months. It just seems that people think it's norm to stop at like 6 months. My mom even said, "I thought you only breastfed for a few months and that was it."

yeah when my son was 8 months I was getting the "you're STILL breastfeeding? when will you start formula??" like never if I don't have to. The lack of education about breastfeeding nowadays is so sad.

I always say, well babies are usually on formula at least a year, so I'll (hopefully) breastfeed at least a year.

I have posted about this a bunch. My family is harsh on me about breastfeeding still, and WIC even went as far as to tell me at 6 months he was to be weaned onto formula and HAD TO start solids right then and there

My daughter was 3 months and I wanted to go much longer with my son but they said he had a "short tongue" and would not latch properly so I pumped and fed and it was too much work for me with a toddler running around and when he got sick at 6 weeks and ended up in the PICU I dried up.

DD just turned two and is still nursing. I'm kind of hoping she self-weans sometime during my pregnancy...

Really? Our wic is amazing with breastfeeding mothers. They even gave me a pump when they weren't really supposed to, because he was getting formula at first through them (we had a really rough start) but didn't even end up using most of it, but they still gave me a pump and told me they recommend breastfeeding till 2 if I could. My family on the other hand isn't so for it. I dread going to some of their homes because they really don't understand it and I hear of all the ways I should change my parenting, blah, blah.

OMG, people 4 months?! That is such a stupid notion! Why breastfeed if you don't plan to do it until they are done? I mean, if you have to switch over to formula when you wean from the breast isn't that a dead giveaway that the baby still needs your milk? It amazes me how ignorant people are about this.

yeah WIC told me that I have to wean him soon otherwise the new baby won't get colostrum when she's born.....like really?? I thought they were supposed to be educated on this stuff!

good luck! haha my son ia 28 months, I am 28 weeks pregnant, pretty sure my milk has dried up, it HURTS so bad to nurse. Luckily he nurses once a day for his nap, and then at night to fall asleep, but still does wake a couple of times to nurse. I think it's mainly comfort at this point. I hope he does self wean soon after his sister is born, I do want him to nurse when my milk comes in so he can help with the engorgement. :)
