I know this isn't that big of a deal but.. MIL told me to book a 3D ultrasound soon to find out the gender, she said it would be my bday present from her (they cost $130+ here and I didn't want to shell out that kind of $ when medical ultrasounds are free) so I start calling around and their policy has changed, no clinic will let me do a gender determination ultrasound before 18 weeks.. Which is pointless considering the ultrasound at my OB's office is the week after. I was hoping to get one done at 15-16 weeks but I won't let her pay 130 to find out 7 days earlier...pointless vent :( lol.

could you get them to write it on a piece of paper to open on your birthday? Then you still get the 3D pictures and all that.

What do you mean? I would only be 16 weeks by my birthday so I couldn't even get it done until 2 weeks after that.. And my medical ultrasound is scheduled for 19 weeks so I don't see a point in paying so much for 3D :(

Some places will and other places won't. Unfortunately there are to many people who do gender selection.

None in Ottawa will :( so that means at 16 weeks you cans still get an abortion? Seems kinda late in the game.. Ah I'm really disappointed I wanted to know so I can start getting things! They couldn't tell what DD was at her 20 week ultrasound, I only found out because I got amniocentesis, otherwise I would have had to wait til 32 weeks.

I think in Canada is actually up to the doctors discretion on how far along you can abort.

Some people will have late term abortions(after 24 weeks) and if they can't find a doctor willing to do it they fly back to their country and have one done there.

you should explain that to her and give her the option of still wanting to do them later in the pregnancy I've seen people get them done in the 30th week and they turn out amazing!!!

Nah, I wouldn't even want her to spend that after we know the gender, the whole reason for it was to find out early but now that that's out the window I don't really care for the 3D part, I find them creepy looking anyway lol.

Eeesh that's sad :( pretty sure they basically have to go through labor at that point to get it out.

I've never heard of a place doing it in 3D to find out the gender anyway. The 3D places here offer a normal u/s at 15-17wks. They will give you a peek in 3D if you ask but they say the baby looks like an alien so they don't do them generally. That's weird.

in Canada (at least in BC) that used to be the only way you could find out the gender.(by doing it by 3d)
