OK so I have a 3 month old 12 pound girl, and according to everyone I talk to she should eat about 1/2 ounce per pound of formula. She is only eating around 3 and according to them should eat 6. My sister's kid wqas taken from her do to malnutrition. Could my girl be taken from me because she won't eat, or is it because she's just not hungry? The Dr. said she was 90 percentile for height, but only 60 for weight.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the amount she's eating. Just feed her on demand... as long as she has plenty of wet diapers through the day, and is gaining weight, she's fine.

My LO stayed at 50% for weight until he was well over a year old.

Could be not just hungry. How how many ounces per how many hours is she eating (like 3 ounces every some odd hours)

Is she having enough wet diapers?

I wouldn't worry about it. Both my kids are small and were about that weight or smaller at 3 months. Hell neither of them even hit 20lbs by the time they turned 1.
As long as she IS eating and is putting out wet/dirty diapers I wouldn't worry.
The only reason they would take your kids is if you were actually neglecting them.

Unless she's losing weight, don't worry about it. You can't force her to eat. The pedi will decide when it becomes an issue.

Now all babies are fat. DD is 32 1/2 inches long and only weighs 19lbs. She has been off the scales in height but only in like the 20th percentile in weight all 10 months she has been with us. The doctor isn't concerned at all and neither am I. Some babies are just thinner then others as long as she is having enough wet/dirty diapers and is alert and thriving just keep doing what your doing.

OK this makes me feel better she does eat around every hour or two, and sleeps through the night...so baby she is going to be one of those little lady types that eat like a bird.

if she;s having the full 3oz every couple of hours throughout the day and sleeping through the night, she's good. my son is a little over 12 lbs at about 10 weeks. he's in the 54th percentile for weight. he eats 4oz every 3-4 hours and takes about 5 or 6 just before he goes for his long stretch at night. he's doing just fine! i think your baby is okay too. the feeding schedule sounds okay, and as the other ladies said, of she's peeing and pooping okay along with it, then she's okay. keep up the good work!

Kids eat when they're hungry. When i was bottle feeding, I would just make an extra ounce for him depending on how much he would drink on average. If he drank the extra.. great .. if not .. not big deal. The weight and height sound normal to me. I mean that doesn't sound excessively small. My youngest eats my other 2 under the table and he's under the 25% (it fluctuates a bit, but that's what it is on average). You don't want to force her to eat when she's not hungry because that's not healthy for her either.
